BBC Sports Presenter Jermaine Jenas sacked

Yet another person who once “famous” has behaved inappropriately towards women he was working with.
This 41 year old has admitted it; he is a married man with 3 children.
Has this always gone on, but it is no longer acceptable?

Apart from anything else, I imagine it was in his code of conduct as part pf his contract that he was not to send sexual texts to colleagues. Gross misconduct

The same thing happened to Jason Manford yet he’s now back in favour.

Carol Thatcher got the sack for saying (in private) that she thought somebody’s hair looked like a Golly**g. Somebody snitched but there was nothing in writing.

Only an idiot would risk their career by sending inappropriate texts. Are they really so arrogant they think they will get away with it?

I’d be surprised if the sacking took place without the bbc lawyers advice.
Why should there be a warning? It’s alleged he persistently sexted one woman over 24 hours. I’d be worrying what kind of warning he was giving about escalating behaviour.

In the early eighties I worked for a specialist employment agency and we used canvas outside exam centres. My boss once said 'Mel (the other secretary) can hand out flyers in a tight t-shirt and short skirt and ... (me) can stay here and answer the phones' and we just did it!

I don't think that firing someone for having an affair is appropriate (unless they are in the Church or similar). If they are TV presenters move them off Songs of Praise and other religious programmes, but whilst I am not condoning affairs, if both parties consent they are nobody's business but the families concerned.

Sexual harassment is different though. It's power play when it happens between 'the talent' (ie a high profile presenter) and someone lower down the pecking order. It doesn't matter if it's 'legal' in the sense that both parties are above the age of consent. People (usually women) should be able to go to work without fear of being treated as sex objects, and I agree with Jane that we should stop making excuses for the perpetrators - they know it's wrong.

Until we learn more about what happened in this case, which may never happen, we don't know if the BBC is being trigger-happy after the Huw Edwards case, but if something like this happened in most workplaces it would be seen as serious misconduct.

I strongly suspect he was abusing his position and that he had made unwelcome advances to a number of women. The BBC has treated him like it would any other employee who did that, which is reasonable, and it doesn’t look like he will take any action against them. I don’t think we need to know any further details if that is the case, I get so bored of the media wanting to squeeze every detail out of cases like this, and destroying peoples lives in the process - families go through the wringer, and that’s wrong.

As for women sexually harassing men, it does happen - it happened twice that I knew about when I was working. I think one of the reasons we don’t hear more about it though is that male victims are far less likely to complain to their managers about it.

I think colour is irrelevant, it’s a speedy reaction after the dithering with Huw Edwards.

Men don’t complain because a woman sexting them because it’s good for their ego.
I had a brother-in-law who was after ‘anything in a skirt’ even tho I was 14/15 years old he thought it was ok to make sexual comments to me when my sister wasn’t around. Told Mum who told me to keep quiet! Years later when they divorced my sister said she wished we’d told her she’d have divorced him sooner! Amongst others he had an affair with my bothers then girlfriend-later wife.

It’s confirmed at least one wasn’t consensual which has legal complications according to the link I posted earlier

I do too, it does sound like a pretty clear cut case. It’s different to the Huw Edwards case, in that the women involved have obviously come forward voluntarily and provided clear evidence. I very much doubt that colour had anything to do with this case, in the same circumstances any employee would be treated the same.

Oh dear. Here we go. Why does colour always have to be a factor? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the backlash the BBC received over their long, drawn-out handling of the Huw Edwards and Strictly situations. They don't intend making the same mistake again and show they will act swiftly in future and rightly so.
