Strictly restarts this Saturday when it will be the pairing up of celebs and pros..... which may even be less cringe-making than usual. grin

I don't know many of this year's celebs, but nothing new to that, and no doubt I shall get hooked in as usual.

Loved Montell and Johannes you could see it was emotional for both of them. Ditto Chris and Diane.
I’m not a fan of Jamie but I do love a traditional Paso and I am impressed with Michelle’s choreography.

Voting is getting harder each week.

rafichagran Sat 19-Oct-24 21:28:53

I loved Montell and Johanes, the dance was so joyous.

ferry23 Sat 19-Oct-24 21:48:56

They must have had a big sign upstairs with Claudia saying "NO TOUCHING".

And the men were clearly instructed to stand with their hands crossed in front of them.

I do so hate it when the music doesn't fit the dance - both the sambas and the tango were completely the wrong tempo. But the Paso - spot on music and costumes - just adds to the quality of the dance.

Sweetpeasue Sat 19-Oct-24 22:12:26

ferry23 I totally agree with you about the correct music ,tempo, and style for the dance.
It can be painful to watch a dance with the wrong music.

Esmay Sun 20-Oct-24 08:21:08

I'm not as enthusiastic as I used to be , but I watched it .
I like Sara and think that she's talented .
I found Wynne and Katya's performance a huge attempt at everything being a joke .
I can understand why .Afterwards , Katya's smile was an unfortunate rictus .

Sparklefizz Sun 20-Oct-24 08:30:40

Maybe I'm a cynic but there is too much protesting regarding Wynne and Katya and the "wandering hand" episode.

The film clip of them climbing a Welsh hillside and him giving her a piggyback was cringe-inducing - Strictly don't want any more scandal, Katya wants to hold onto her job and Wynne wants to restore his reputation after he was torn apart on social media.

Then the judges overmarked them in an effort to keep them in the competition.

The viewers are not stupid.

Anniebach Sun 20-Oct-24 08:39:56

Then I am thankful I didn’t want to tear his reputation apart, so
.social media

Grannynannywanny Sun 20-Oct-24 08:44:09

I agree Sparklefizz. I watched with my 18 year old granddaughter and we both thought they were trying too hard to show us they were having so much fun.

I thought last night's show was a mixed bag. I agree that some of the modern music choices didn't work with the dances. Also, I felt some of the costumes were off, too much ostrich feathering and netting at the bottom of the longer dresses to see the feet properly, and some hairstyles were a bit untidy.
Having said that, I enjoyed Jamie's Paso, and Montell's number. Chris too was excellent, but what strikes me now at week 4, or is it 5?, is that I can't see a clear winner at this stage. Usually one or two contestants start forging ahead by now in terms of style and expertise.

Sara1954 Sun 20-Oct-24 09:09:24

I enjoyed the show, but I thought some of the marking and comments were way off.
I feel quite niggled about their marking of Wynnes dance, I’m no expert, but it looked messy and very unpolished, whereas poor Sam, who looked amazing to me, got a very harsh score.
Something seems to be going on there, and I don’t like it.

Casdon Sun 20-Oct-24 09:16:39

I think we all see different things, don’t we? I thought Sam and Punam were both poor last night I’m afraid, nice though they are. I agree that nobody is really standing out yet, although there are a number of potentially very good dancers.

Clawdy Sun 20-Oct-24 09:27:17

I think the judges are desperate to keep Wynne and Katya in. Those marks were ridiculous. And Shirley was so over the top last night, for most of the programme.

Anniebach Sun 20-Oct-24 09:43:06

The marking of Wynne’s dance was not of his doing, expect
social media will say he fixed it.

Sparklefizz Sun 20-Oct-24 09:57:06

I agree Clawdy. As someone else said last night, he stumbled and nearly fell over. How could that possibly warrant a score of 9 from Shirley and her comment that his dance was exquisite.

Anniebach Sun 20-Oct-24 10:13:22

Desperate to keep him in or wanting to show support for a man
who has been unfairly accused of sexual advances to his dance partner

Sara1954 Sun 20-Oct-24 10:37:34

I love Strictly, but I felt last night, that the scores were being manipulated, Shirley really disappointed me.

Allira Sun 20-Oct-24 10:45:36

I sometimes watch and predict the scores - for the first few I got them mostly right apart from one of Craig's but then the scores went all to pot for the final few dancers.

nanaK54 Sun 20-Oct-24 10:54:26

Evening out yesterday - yay! So only caught up this morning.

Chris and Dianne such a moving performance. I will never understand how she teaches him and/or how he manages to execute these dances they are a very special partnership.

Wynne and Katya - last week's news really - we will never know the truth so no point speculating - I did think marks were too high but what do I know?!

Calendargirl Sun 20-Oct-24 10:55:39

I just feel when they dole out 10’s so early on, there’s nothing left to strive for, which is why Craig wisely hangs on to his 10 paddle.

Shirley, Motsi, Anton, just want to be popular.

Esmay Sun 20-Oct-24 11:50:23

Most of us want to see proper dancing without the hype .
I'm finding Anton a bit of a clown .

Esmay

Completely agree.

I'm disappointed that Anton is over-egging himself. He's trying to be a cross between Len and Bruno (both irreplaceable in their own way) and seems to have lost himself in all of it.

He does actually have quite a dry sense of humour, I wish he'd just be himself.

I saw him with Erin Boag when they toured together and he was absolutely delightful, but that was a few years back now.

Calendargirl Sun 20-Oct-24 12:47:28

He’s trying to be a cross between Len and Bruno

‘Trying’ being the operative word.

The shrieking and jumping off his chair is Bruno, some of the phrases he uses are pinched off Len.

The thing is, he passes some really constructive comments when he talks about what he really knows, i.e. being a professional dancer on the show, which none of the other judges can claim to.

LizzieDrip Sun 20-Oct-24 12:54:36

I think Chris is a-maze-ing!!! What he is achieving without being able to see is truly remarkable. I thought his dance last night to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was incredibly emotional. I’d really love him to win, but don’t think he willsad

Like others on here have commented, Shirley seemed a bit ‘over excited’ last night - maybe she and Motsi had taken a pre-show sherry (or three)grin

Millie22 Sun 20-Oct-24 15:16:31

Shirley certainly got quite excited when Pete did the rumba. It was a bit icky tbh.

I think she really likes him 😂

escaped Sun 20-Oct-24 15:36:19

Peter's hip action wasn't brilliant, and his legs were a bit stiff, but there was certainly chemistry between them!
