Sam NEILL And Annette Bening star in this 7 part drama when the Mom goes missing…seems intriguing… anyone else watching.

I’m sticking with it … it’s on iPLAYER so with all this rain today going to binge watch… yes finding the Then and Now a bit distracting but do like Sam Neill and also love THE TWELVE .
Annette BENING haven’t seen her much of her in films/dramas and wonder when this was filmed.?

Filming began in Queensland, Australia and London, England in March 2023, before it was suspended in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

If filming was suspended, will there be a proper end to this (if we haven’t given up on it before then)!

Initially I thought that it was boring -then quickly got into the mystery.
I was sorry when it finished and wonder whether to binge watch it !

Was a bit unsure about it to start with, but soon got into it and enjoyed the first episode so will watch it again next week.

I think the strike was resolved in November 2023 so presumably they continued then.

I'm on episode 3 now after having a bit of a binge watch during a very wet Sunday afternoon here. I'm enjoying it.

Yes. So far so good

Binge watched it last night
I liked it, though I couldn’t understand why it was set in America. Scenery was lovely.

The book was great, can't understand why the location has been changed .. but anything with Sam Neill is a must-watch for me so I'm really spoilt, having recently binge-watched the second series of The Twelve.

Strange really, the book is set in Sydney and the series was filmed on the Gold Coast so why pretend it's America?

At a guess.....American money! I do like Sam Neill, but this was rubbish as far as I was concerned. Watched the first episode to give it the benefit of the doubt, but no.

Eddieslass Mon 23-Sept-24 16:09:29

Watched it all. Brilliant!

NannyKnit Mon 23-Sept-24 16:17:06

I have all her books on audio (looking forward to this week’s new one) & loved Big Little Lies on TV. Nine Perfect Strangers wasn’t such a good adaptation.
Will defintely watch this latest one (although, like others, would prefer them to be set in Australia.)

I'm watching it and really enjoying it.

I've binged it - bad back was my excuse!
I have read the book. Why move it to US indeed?

Tallulah52 Mon 23-Sept-24 16:47:25

I think the location was changed because Sam Neil has recently undergone treatment for cancer in Australia. Unfortunately I gave up watching after first episode as apart from Annette Bening & Sam, I thought the acting was quite poor.

Dianehillbilly1957 Mon 23-Sept-24 17:43:43

Gave up, was boring me, sick of hyped up things which fall flat and time wasting rubbish!

Thanks! I’m relieved, as I had a horrible thought that we’d be left hanging!

I have watched all episodes on l player and thoroughly enjoyed it

Sara1954 Tue 24-Sept-24 06:33:04

I’ve enjoyed her books, so thought I’d give it a go.
I watched two episodes, but not sure if I’ll carry on with it, it was okay, but didn’t grip me.

Yoginimeisje Tue 24-Sept-24 08:42:15

I've read the book, so am watching. I adore Liane Moriarty, have all her books. I am just finishing '9 perfect strangers' Her stories do start off slow, getting you to know the characters and background, but after the first 2 chapters, cannot put her books down, they are sooo good.

Yoginimeisje Tue 24-Sept-24 08:45:09

The TV drama won't be as good as reading the book, I've no doubt.

Ilovedogs22 Tue 24-Sept-24 08:50:20

I got a little bit excited when I spotted this as I love Annette Bening super cool. Ohh but how wrong I was, turned it over within 10 mins! Smalzy, pretentious claptrap. Very disappointing, watched Vera instead, much more authentic. confused

Irismarle Tue 24-Sept-24 20:45:06

I think the casting director who picked the 4 children of Joy and Stan should have got actors who looked as if they were related. They were all so different it was hard to believe they were supposed to be siblings.
I’ve binge watched it and quite enjoyed it, although the ending was a bit ott. But they usually are!

Calendargirl Tue 24-Sept-24 21:16:53

I guessed the children’s ages wrong. I thought Amy was the youngest, but she was older than Brooke.

I agree they didn’t resemble siblings at all.
