Starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans.

Based on a true story. 4 parter.

So far, so good.

I found it a bit disturbing knowing this kind of abuse of women goes on. Most aren't serial killers but men still do abuse women in a domestic settings.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 04-Nov-24 15:54:21

I watched it last night and enjoyed it. Both characters are odd, though. I'll see how it goes tonight.

I thought she showed tendencies towards , OCD, hence the episode with the rug, Anna Maxwell-Martin met up the real Delia, before she portrayed her, there is a photo of her in one of the TV magazines and she is still alive. I think it will change direction a bit in the forthcoming episodes and it concentrates on the fact that the police (The Met) didn't want to take her seriously and many years later, when another case was going to court. Sounds a familiar story for the Met Police lately.

I like and admire both actors .
I thought that it was good , but perhaps could have been better .
The story came across as a bit thin .
I'll be watching it through .
So many women have gone through abuse it all forms and it's certainly relevant .

Well now I owe this thread an apology
I think I nodded off in parts last night as I ve just watched it again and enjoyed it and had missed bits out (oh the joys of getting older)
So yes it seems to have potential and I ll keep watching

pably15 Mon 04-Nov-24 18:14:23

couldn't wait to watch it....sadly episode one was enough ,won't be watching anymore...

henetha Mon 04-Nov-24 18:22:28

I liked it and am looking forward to tonight's episode.

merlotgran Mon 04-Nov-24 21:33:38

Tonight’s episode has got me watching through my fingers. 😮

madalene Mon 04-Nov-24 21:36:34

And me merlot, he’s a brute.
When was this set, the police were awful. Not treating the flat as a crime scene, not interested in the drawings.

ExDancer Mon 04-Nov-24 21:40:51

I think I'm hooked.

Calendargirl Mon 04-Nov-24 21:48:44

petra

I think a member on MN nailed it for me: ^shes not a likeable victim^

She’s not, is she?

Impossible to warm to her.

merlotgran Mon 04-Nov-24 21:59:18

OMG!!!

Brave neighbour.

Primrose53 Mon 04-Nov-24 22:21:09

Horrific ending tonight

Lomo123 Mon 04-Nov-24 22:28:45

Loving it, edge of the seat stuff. On ep 3 now, on the player.

Charleygirl5 Mon 04-Nov-24 22:40:45

The jury was out here last night but tonight the hour whizzed by. Delia is rather odd and I would never have returned to the flat especially knowing he was a carpenter.

Devorgilla Mon 04-Nov-24 22:50:25

I didn't realise it started last night so I will have to watch that one tomorrow. I found it quite disturbing but I will watch to bitter end. Perhaps they wanted to show that the Police are not always as sympathetic as we would like to imagine in these circumstances.

LaCrepescule Mon 04-Nov-24 22:51:10

Have watched 3 of the 4 episodes and am finding it utterly gripping. She’s a very challenging character though - I found her mean-spirited and unlikeable and that was even before she went through her terrible trauma.
But it’s handled really well and the acting is excellent.

Bobbysgirl19 Mon 04-Nov-24 22:53:58

Finding it very gripping, with some of the scenes really horrific!
Will definitely watch the whole series.
As it's based on a true story sure lots of research would have gone into the portrayal of the characters too!

Bridie22 Mon 04-Nov-24 22:56:19

Watched 3 episodes, it certainly becomes addictive viewing.

Doodledog Mon 04-Nov-24 23:14:33

It reminded me of another true crime dramatisation about a man who was odd (Christopher someone) and was assumed to be a murderer. Nobody was sympathetic to him either, because of his oddness.

I wouldn't get on with Delia Balmer, but that shouldn't mean that people like her shouldn't have protection under law. There is a documentary about her on ITVX. I haven't watched it, so can't recommend it, but I noticed it earlier and might watch it at some point. She wrote the book on which the series was based.

He was the landlord accused of killing his tenant wasn't he?

The more I read of this thread, the less I know about whether to watch 'until I kill you'.

I think I might quite like it.

BlueBelle Tue 05-Nov-24 05:43:56

I m really into it now and throughly enjoying (not really the right word) the drama What a life this lady went through Yes she’s an oddball and not easy to understand or probably like but if’s making fascinating viewing
I must read up on the real lady

Esmay Tue 05-Nov-24 05:54:15

Missed the beginning as I forgot it was on and was easily distracted by Nigel Kennedy !

It was horrendous .
I think that Delia is a difficult person to like , but my heart went out to her when Sweeney was released on bail .
She , certainly was let down by the system .
And that's what concerns me - how many men like him have been released early ?

BlueBelle Tue 05-Nov-24 07:02:55

They believe he killed three or four other women in the time he was free !!! the police were not on the ball at all
How do you recover from that horrendous near death experience when he beat her close to death
Poor woman she ll live in fear and never get close to anyone again I would think
