Starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans.

Based on a true story. 4 parter.

So far, so good.

Very good so far and two really good actors.

Lilypops Sun 03-Nov-24 22:42:58

Very good acting but, one comment , why do directors assume that if the actor is portraying a scouser then every other word has to be F…..g. As in Till I kill you , on tonight , not every Liverpudlian swears like that and in such an aggressive way ,

Greenfinch Sun 03-Nov-24 22:44:41

Excellent so far and spine chilling too. Easy to follow the events, diction clear and very well acted. Looking forward to tomorrow’s episode.

I loved Endeavour and it wasn’t until it ended that I realised Shaun Evans had a Liverpudlian accent.

Yes, we watched it. It was good, and we’ll be watching again tomorrow.

BlueBelle Mon 04-Nov-24 00:36:58

Well I watched and didn’t enjoy it as much as you guys …we ll have to see I’ll stick with it

Charleygirl5 Mon 04-Nov-24 06:49:01

I am like Bluebelle with me the jury is out but I will watch tonight's episode.

Thank you for reminding me he was last in Endeavour.

Calendargirl Mon 04-Nov-24 06:52:59

I watched it, but can’t say I liked it.

I found Delia very strange, whereas I expected John to be odd.

I shall keep watching.

I have ordered the book from the library, and it is waiting to be collected.

I shall know what happens before I read it though.

Bridie22 Mon 04-Nov-24 07:14:57

Watched it...not sure, will watch tonight's to see if its worth continuing.

Lilypops Mon 04-Nov-24 08:35:19

Why did Delia get so annoyed when he split tea on her rug then she asked him to leave immediately , strange behaviour I thought. But it’s good and will keep on watching till the end .

BlueBelle Mon 04-Nov-24 08:38:49

I found her fairly neurotic and not all that believable was she meant to be?
See if I get into it tonight let’s say’s I m not on the edge of my sitting waiting for round 2

I was looking forward to seeing it after reading the blurb and listening to Anna on woman’s hour explaining how it affected her. I love her acting. I’ve watched Motherland over and over but this was very disappointing.
I found her character very irritating. I gave it half an hour.

TerriBull Mon 04-Nov-24 09:00:04

I will watch it, The Guardian has given it 5* in their review.

Same here. I got as far as Christmas dinner with his family then gave up.

I think a member on MN nailed it for me: shes not a likeable victim

GrannyGravy13 Mon 04-Nov-24 09:33:51

I couldn’t take to any of the characters, gave up after 45 minutes.

I was disappointed as I usually like the two lead actors.

TheWeirdo Mon 04-Nov-24 09:38:18

I've just Googled it and it sounds interesting! I'll try to catch it!

madalene Mon 04-Nov-24 11:48:05

I didn’t actually like either of the two main characters either, but I enjoyed the plot, and as I said before, will watch again.

Calendargirl Mon 04-Nov-24 14:17:01

Call me a prude, but any boyfriend of mine who urinated in the garden whilst we attended a friend’s birthday party would have been finished with, and certainly would never have been invited to move in with me.

I think, as it's a true story, they're portraying her the way she was.

Greenfinch Mon 04-Nov-24 14:33:36

Agreed. She is not a fictional character and she did as she did. Whether we would have behaved in the same way is missing the point. I found her behaviour strange but that is immaterial.

HeavenLeigh Mon 04-Nov-24 14:42:06

Looking forward to the next 3 episodes

Ilovedogs22 Mon 04-Nov-24 15:05:24

Ohhh no! I cannot stand Anna Maxwell Martin!!! She has the smuggest face in the universe.
She reminds me of quite a few of the up their own bottom-type mums at the school gates. I cannot understand her appeal as any sort of a actress.
she probably calls herself an actoooor anyway. 🤔
