The number 1 slot in the charts was almost reserved for him. But he's vanished completely.

I did spot an article about him just a couple of months back and the accompanying photo was not flattering by any means. Age seems to have caught up with him, as it does with all of us.

No reason at all.
One of the first of modern British 'pop'stars (although yes, i know he was born in India).

I know Anniebach but all I heard in reply was a deafening silence!

I was supporting your asking Maw x

He's not a saint, just like none of us either. But he was found not guilty of those charges.
Cliff had a brilliant career and was highly popular for a long time.
Why be unpleasant about people we don't really know?

Though I've never been a fan -I've admired him for sticking to his Christian principles and felt acutely sorry for him when he was accused of being a paedophile
( I think -not sure .The details didn't come to light) .

You are allowed to dislike someone (for any variety of reasons) or find them 'creepy' without a reason. Sometimes you just feel that way about a person - whether that is someone you know personally or a tv/media personality.

Just a word - he wasn’t ‘found not guilty of those charges’. The investigation concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to charge so it never went to court. The CPS wants a minimum likelihood of a successful prosecution in these kind of offences. Investigating and prosecuting allegations of historical sex offences is fraught with difficulty. Prosecuting allegations made in the immediate aftermath is hard enough.

Yes it goes without saying, any false allegation is dreadful

I don't know, but doesn't the very word "creepy" suggest overstepping boundaries? Like something sinister or disturbing.

You've never got 'creepy' vibes from someone without knowing why?

I'm trying to puzzle it out.
Creepy vibes maybe felt by an onlooker, but a categorical statement that "he IS creepy" is different.

As Anniebach pointed out, there were no charges. The case was dropped as there was absolutely no evidence and the police response to the allegation was OTT. The police and the BBC paid compensation.

Yes.
Jimmy Savile.

I know few people who found him appealing.

henetha Wed 04-Dec-24 10:30:59

Jimmy Saville, different kettle of fish.
Ok, Cliff not found not guilty, just not enough evidence. I accept that. My mistake. I still feel uncomfortable with these unpleasant remarks we make about people though. It always bothers me.
And I think Cliff was innocent anyway.

Never liked him- and always found him creepy (and for good reasons).

Why for good reason?

I do, I think bbc put him through the wringer- we cancelled our licence shortly after

My sister met Jimmy Savile once. She said he was really nice.

keepingquiet Wed 04-Dec-24 10:48:29

Let him grow old for heaven's sake-the man did enough for the music industry in his time.

What a silly thread.

Mt61 Wed 04-Dec-24 10:50:29

Fleurpepper what reason? I meant

Yes, absolutely! I could name several TV personalities or 'celebrities' for instance who, to me, just have that 'creepy' vibe about them.
