New series on Ch5 , it hasn't held my concentration one bit, the characters are all so half soaked you really feel as if no one really wants to be there.
I have watched him before but don't think I will bother again I am sure the series I watched years ago was much more dynamic or perhaps it was just more in keeping with the times and we are used to a much more faster paced crime drama these days.

Enjoying it so far, really like Bertie C, but wish the character could laugh occasionally!

I didn’t care for Martin Shaw as Dalgliesh, although he is a fine actor and very attractive.

He just seemed to come across as ‘posh’, but to me didn’t capture the character very well.

Spoiler Alert: Hello, a question about the last two episodes of Dalgleish ( Devices and Desires).
Who was killing the women who worked at the nuclear power plant?
Was it the two female activists? Much as I enjoy this series, myself and my husband didn't quite grasp who the serial killer was.

The serial killer, the Whistler, was the man found dead in bed in the pub.

He walked a dog and wore a wig, so think he dressed as a woman to make his victims think he was ‘safe’. The ‘L’ cut into their foreheads was his mother’s initials, he had a troubled past.

The dead girl on the beach was murdered by Alice, the sister of the head of the nuclear plant, because she was pregnant by him and was a threat to his promotion to London.

I think this is correct. I agree it was a bit of a muddle.

I’ve read the book, but have forgotten all the ins and outs of the plot.

confused

Binge watched the series and enjoyed it . Did anyone see Bertie Carvell in BBC Pale horse with Rufus Swell. Shows what a versatile actor he is .
Also binge watched Mayflower murders and once out of Crete enjoyed hope there is another one .

What side was the one called Once Out Of Crete Whiff?

No, she had an abortion. She had proof of him making a research mistake and still publishing the paper to ensure he got the top job, holding this over him so he would marry her.

Thank you Tiz Liz.

Calendargirl Mon 23-Dec-24 18:01:13

Oh, I forgot about the abortion Tizliz

Why does Dalgleish always look like he’s sucking a lemon?
I’m sure he hasn’t always done it.

Martin Shaw is a great actor but I couldn't really get into him as Dalgliesh as I couldn't imagine him as the introspective poet from the books. Perhaps it is my misspent youth remembering him as the all action "Doyle" from the Professionals doing karate kicks and driving hell-for-leather in a Ford Capri.

I really like Bertie Carvel in the role. I found the first story of season 3 - Death in Holy Orders - was the least successful IMHO. It seemed so claustrophobic, and for a priest training seminary, there didn't seem to be any students ... only staff. Also I'm not sure why Emma Lavenham's role was changed - wasn't she originally an academic from Cambridge?
