I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

Last nights episode of Gavin and Stacey was brilliant. Ruth Jones said she hoped it was a Christmas present to everyone. It certainly was a wonderful end to a lovely Christmas Day. Thankyou Ruth and James but sad it’s ended.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A great ending, good old Dave and the bus😆 all the characters looking old with the exception of Smithy and Nessa, very strange I wonder if being overweight keeps you looking younger? Pass the mince pies 😂

Yes, I can vouch for that 😁

Stacey had put on weight too but she has had four children and health problems which can cause weight gain in the meantime.

Jaysus, but there's talk of even more "Gavin'n'Stayceeee!"

And I thought British television had dumbed down to rock-bottom......but, apparently, it can fall even further.

One needs a degree of intelligence to enjoy the programme

Not this twaddle you don't. Chav television.

The re visit to Gavin & Stacey certainly outshone the re visit to Outnumbered.
I'm happy to be a bit of a chav of high intelligence.

You’re right Annuebach, it’s the people who watch superficially without taking time to understand the subtleties who are the real losers here. First rate comedy writing and observation of human behaviour is rare, but if you are a G&S fan you see it in abundance.

Anniebach Fri 27-Dec-24 08:41:05

Casdon I so agree, and how I wish there had been a Nessa when I visited Barry beach with Sunday School

Galaxy Fri 27-Dec-24 08:57:35

She would have charged you £70 for a ride along the beach though Anniegrin

Anniebach Fri 27-Dec-24 09:04:19

Galaxy yes but I would have seen her and heard her play that
mouth organ thingy

Worth every pennysmile

It was the little things I really enjoyed.
Rudi's children being named Taplow, Chingford, Brighton and ALDI…
...and I really fancy corn on the cob!

One can only hope that Rudi didn't name her kids after the place where they were conceived.

I've heard of the Aldi aisle of shame, but.....

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 27-Dec-24 10:20:24

Stacey’s family is West
Gavin’s is Shipman

Ruth Jones (Nessa) purposely used these infamous murderers surnames when co-writing the scripts.
And Pete (Dawn’s husband) was named Peter Sutcliffe …

Have you actually watched an episode mae13? It definitely isn't 'chav' television. It is heartwarming, funny and observant.

You do, Anniebach
Perhaps mae13 just doesn't get it.

Do you realise just how offensive your posts sound, mae13?

😂😂😂

The wedding dress!! Bet we wish we'd all had one like that.

MissAdventure Fri 27-Dec-24 10:27:41

Can only presume someone with such firm views on a programme must have watched it.

Anniebach Fri 27-Dec-24 10:50:16

Why would a person want to criticise a programme they don’t watch and insult those who enjoy the programme?

A boost to their very low confidence ?

As MissAdventure says, someone with such knowledge of the programme must have watched it.

And we never did find out what happened on the fishing trip!

Mojack26 Fri 27-Dec-24 11:45:15

Never watched any of it....just doesn't appeal to me....

wibblywobblywobblebottom Fri 27-Dec-24 11:49:01

I saw a couple of the earlier episodes, didn't like them so I never watched the series again, that includes the finale. I spoke to a friend and she said you didn't miss anything. So the usual crap TV over Christmas.
