I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

Neil the baby singing of the Beatles song โ€˜Blackbirdโ€™ was superb
Be lovely to hear more of him

I agree, he's a superb musician and that rendition was so moving. Loved the rest of the episode too. As there are 2 West Ham supporters in our family, the lads on the stag wearing those shirts made it memorable, even if Gavin had a Spurs badge on his! I read that Matthew Horne is a Spurs fan, so that would explain that.

It was tidy.
Babs03 well said!

So many funny moments, the bit about Hale and Pace set me off laughing but that passed over the heads of the younger ones.
Mind you, they enjoyed it too.

Apparently they had to keep one of the actors hidden when they weren't actually filming their scenes.
I won't say which one in case some people haven't watched it yet ๐Ÿ˜

Anything with the unfunny James Corden is obviously directed towards the very lowest common denominator......

Yeah, luv, we're all chavs.
Unlike you of course.

We're all different. Pam is my least favourite character but then Alison Steadman is my least favourite character in anything.

You see, I always think Pam has a touch of the Hyacinth Bouquet about her.
The episode with the towels was very funny.

Alison Steadman is just superb.

Along with the other 12.2 million chavs - and still counting!

I've often wondered over the years if Ruth and James asked permission of the high-profile people they worked into their stories about Nessa's "past history."
Hale and Pace were new to me this year but I'm thinking of previous episodes with John Prescott, plus David Blunkett (and "his bitch").
So deadpan, so funny, but so near the edge ๐Ÿ˜‚

John Prescott did a cameo in Nessa and Dave's non wedding.

No idea whether they seek permission, I would think some of those mentioned would be glad that anyone remembered them!

Anniebach Thu 26-Dec-24 18:25:58

John Prescott knew

Yes I've often thought they'd be quite proud of the name check ๐Ÿคฃ

Desdemona Thu 26-Dec-24 18:54:26

Not forgetting Mohammed Al Fayed.

Yes, John Prescott gave it his seal of approval. ๐Ÿ˜€

I canโ€™t imagine Mohamed al Fayed did. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Loved Nessaโ€™s lines. And her weekend kit just in a plastic carrier bag with her only essentials comprising of HRT, feminine wipes & Tic Tacs!

Not forgetting Mohammed Al Fayed.

That was the best one as we were not aware of his evil behaviour. How he wasnโ€™t outed then Iโ€™ll never know ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Not often the last episode of something is better than expected.
Tidy.

It was the name that put me off for years.
It seemed to give no clue as to what the programme was going to be about.

Once I sat and watched it, I enjoyed it.
Then watched all series.

Well, that's Vanessa Shanessa for you!

Last nights episode of Gavin and Stacey was brilliant. Ruth Jones said she hoped it was a Christmas present to everyone. It certainly was a wonderful end to a lovely Christmas Day. Thankyou Ruth and James but sad itโ€™s ended.

theworriedwell Thu 26-Dec-24 21:28:21

Allira my family love AS but I always feel she should be in pantomime. She just grates on me. My husband has been a big fan since Abigail's Party and that's going back isn't it. Good job we aren't all the same life would be boring.

The worst thing she did for me was ruin Pride and Prejudice which I'd always loved. Again the family loved her in it. At least she hasn't put me off G&S.

I love Nessa and Neil the baby singing was just perfect.

Oreo Thu 26-Dec-24 21:53:59

A great ending, good old Dave and the bus๐Ÿ˜† all the characters looking old with the exception of Smithy and Nessa, very strange I wonder if being overweight keeps you looking younger? Pass the mince pies ๐Ÿ˜‚

Oreo Thu 26-Dec-24 21:55:06

Alison Steadman is a really good actor but I agree that Pam as a character is grating.
