Having a discussion with my husband about of all things, the different innovations that helped make the Diesel engine a success, he ended by saying 'I didn't expect to have that conversation with you, Is there anything you couldn't find some interest in?'
'Bagpipes', (first thing that came into my head). grin

But have i just watch a fantastic program on sky Bagpipes a Celebration.

The program showed some wonderful Scottish scenery, but I've never heard the bagpipes played so beautifully. Such a talented group of dedicated musicians from all over Scotland, both men and women.

If anyone is interested I think it is repeated tomorrow at 4.35pm.

Well worth a catchup.

I really detest the sound of bagpipes. It's the only musical instrument I don't like

I’m another who is not a fan of the pipes but I do have a saved you tube clip of the pipes and drums at the late Queen’s funeral and although it was a desperately sad occasion, I could listen to that all day long.

There is a world apart between good piping and bad.

Think Scotland the Brave should be the "anthem" for Scotland instead of that dirge of a song sung at every national event. Scotland the Brave is great bagpipe music.

As a proud Scot I should love the sound of the bagpipes, but I’m not a fan of the street performers, but love watching the Edinburgh tattoo. Hearing the massed bands play the Highland Cathedral almost brings me to tears.

Ceol mor, the big music, or pibroch, is played on a single instrument.. it is slow and I find it beautiful played outdoors.

Highland regiments went into battle to the sound of pipe music.. There is grainy film of the battle of El Alamein with a piper playing in clouds of sand dust. Pibroch is quite sad music. I always think of all the young men of my blood who must have died with the pipes as the last sound in their ears..

Love the sound of the pipes, unfortunately my 2yr old cocker will howl whenever she hears them.
We’re not sure if she’s ‘singing’ along or trying to drown them out!
Embarrassingly she also howls when she hears a bugle- we didn’t know and went to watch the local Remembrance parade last year. You’ve never seen 2 OAPs move so fast while half dragging half carrying a dog.We laugh now but at the time ..shock

The bagpipes are a wonderful sound bringing their own atmospheric comfort. Some folk are so negative. The Red Hot Chilly Peppers are magnificent. Some just don’t recognise comforting excellence. Long live all pipers and may they all have a wonderful New Year. Bless you all xx

I love the sound of bagpipes. They are so evocative. When I was little I used to take the tail feathers of pheasants, cross them on the floor, and do a Scottish dance around them, arms held in the air. As far as I’m aware I don’t have any Scottish blood at all. Alan Breck in Kidnapped said “Am I no a bonny fighter.” The pipes tell it all.

Nongrannymoll that half tone sings to my heart and soul The drone of the pipes is haunting and I have an album ,a pop(ish) album where the singers voice replicated the drone of the pipes on a sad love song. Its magic

Hi. I watched this program on the 18th or 19th and loved it. I want my husband to see it. Does anyone know when Sky Arts will show it again?

Do you have the facility to get it on Catch Up?

ns26 Mon 23-Dec-24 20:47:33

I guess not. We live in Canada and use an android box to get all our British tv. I haven't seen a way to get Catch Up.
