GB NEWS fund raiser for survivors of Grooming Gangs

Just about 9pm tonight Patrick Christys launched a fundraiser after talking to Maggie Oliver who was a Detective and was a lone voice talking about these grooming gangs in 41 areas of the country.

In 1.75 hours he has raised £146,000 and every penny will go to the survivors via the Maggie Oliver Foundation.

I say well done to him and all the viewers and listeners who have donated. This fund raiser continues until Friday.

There are tens of thousands aren't there. I'm sure a fiver will solve all their problems. Still I'm sure he'll love polishing his halo.

Shame on you. I’ve donated to the Maggie Oliver foundation since its inception. That woman is a saint 😡

No, the right wing ones sitting at home feeling smug. Warming themselves on the embers of racism and hatred.

Enjoy. Perhaps Elon will pop a few quid in?

Are you against all charity fund raising?

Or are you just against this fund raising for the Maggie Oliver Foundation due to it being initiated by GB News?

Can't be bothered anymore.

She has more principles and goodness in her little finger than many.

I've never watched GB News but I know many do and this publicity -and this thread too- will prompt many to donate.

You really cannot help yourself making throughly unpleasant and nasty comments can you?

Can GB watchers reassure us it's clear that money raised will go to all abuse victims whoever had abused them and not ring fence it?

My only issue with the fundraising via GB News is its political agenda.

Charity and empathy shouldn’t be linked with politics.

First GB News raise funds for Pensioners missing the WPA, now the victims of grooming gangs recently in the news and commented on several times by Elon.

It makes me feel a tad uncomfortable.

Many charities are politically biased.
This one is not.
Is it just that a news programme is raising money - should the Foundation refuse it?

Some people accuse the BBC of bias. Should they not raise money for charities? BBC Children in Need, Red Nose Day.

Do you not realise how politics and charities are linked? Local and Central Government money is given to many charities to support their work.

The public sector is the second largest source of funding for small charities after the general public.

I am astonished reading through this thread.

How on earth did it get so nasty?

Despite all the hatred the fund is now close to 250k.

Allira Tue 14-Jan-25 17:41:51

Brilliant.
The Maggie Oliver Foundation does such good work.

For posters to try to politicise this and turn it into something nasty is despicable.

I agree- I'd just like to understand more about it before contributing myself. This is not 'being nasty' at all. I have never heard of this Maggie Oliver foundation, and I am very prepared to agree it is doing great work without political or racial bias. Just want to know more.

And there is not denying that the fact this is being by GBN, who have shown great and unfair bias in this 'grooming scandal' does make me wary and uncomfortable too.

I shall be very happy to contribute personally once I know more.

Email the MOF then with your questions. I am sure they will be only too pleased to answer your concerns.

I disagree with your second para. GB News covers topics that other TV Stations will not. On all of their discussions they have guests from all sides of politics.

How did you miss Maggi Oliver when talking about her role in prosecuting the Rotherham grooming gang.
Have you not seen 3 girls.
This woman gave up her job as a senior police officer to tackle this horror.
She gets death threats every day.
And you missed her. Words fail me. Other than living in another country it wasn’t possible 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well said. Completely agree.

I gave full details and references and praise for the Maggie Oliver foundation upthread as it helps all victims of child/women sexual abuse (actually men as well, if you read the website. So - full support there.

My reservations are that this charity is being used on GB news in connection with demands for another inquiry not for all victims but for one group of perpetrators only, ie one racial group.

Claremont Tue 14-Jan-25 21:35:34

My reservation too. I am very suspicious of GB News agenda here. Which is not in any way critical of Maggie Oliver and her own reasons.

That is an understandable suspicion, I feel.

Hi All, I have just registered to add to this discussion although I enjoy the various discussions.

You can contribute directly to the Maggie Oliver Foundation without going through the GB news fundraiser if you prefer, I have just done it.

You can just Google it, the website shows exactly how much it costs to provide various means of support. Hopefully this is useful information.

I am pretty sure Maggie Oliver will have considered this before accepting his offer of donations to her Trust. She is a very smart lady and would not involve herself in anything she did not 100% approve of.

Allira Tue 14-Jan-25 22:06:32

👍

Yes, no need to go through GB News. It is an established charity.

Anyone who doesn’t understand GB News is an absolute force for evil and this fund raiser is entirely political and therefore in very bad taste, is living under a rock

So do you think this charity should turn down all that money?

I think Maggie Oliver knows a lot more than you or me about what really went on.

Mt61 Tue 14-Jan-25 22:20:14

They probably do Cossy, I wouldn’t know as I don’t watch other news stations.

Mt61 Tue 14-Jan-25 22:58:47

theworriedwell I have just donated another £5.00 😇
