Is the Latest KFC Advert Offensive?

I just wonder what others think about the latest KFC advert. The undertones make me very uneasy but maybe I am seeing things that others don't or which aren't there ... I would love to hear what anyone else thinks

Rula Sat 22-Mar-25 00:13:33

I think it's bonkers.

But it's certainly got people talking

Sleepyhead52 Sat 22-Mar-25 00:19:44

I'm not the only one then!

Catterygirl Sat 22-Mar-25 00:53:40

I find it stupid but gets my attention
even though I am not a great fan of KFC. Do eat it occasionally, very occasionally.

BlueBelle Sat 22-Mar-25 06:20:30

Whats is it then ?

Sar53 Sat 22-Mar-25 06:37:52

Both of their ads are totally weird but they do get one's attention.
The whole point really I suppose.

Aldom Sat 22-Mar-25 06:42:51

Perhaps someone could tell me what it's about. Not seen the advert.

BlueBelle Sat 22-Mar-25 06:56:10

Nor me Aldom I take little or no notice of adverts

RosieandherMaw Sat 22-Mar-25 06:57:50

Not having seen or heard of it I tried to watch it last night and gave up out of boredom.
As a tv ad, it seems to have missed the mark as it certainly didn’t make me want to go out and buy their product.

I haven't seen the advert so can't say .
I've never had anything from KFC either.

This was the first part, last year.

Calendargirl Sat 22-Mar-25 07:20:04

I’ve seen it, didn’t ‘get’ it, but never buy KFC anyhow, so wasted on me.

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Mar-25 07:59:51

I didn't see last years but the other we saw by chance yesterday. We liked it a lot because it was a bit surreal/magical realism. We thought it was about chocolate with the man at the end being dipped in a chocolate lake and transforming as if by magic into a nutty crunchy chocolate bar to go inside the massive egg!

It gave us a "yuck" moment when we realised it was a piece of chicken.
Totally off-putting when your brain is full of delicious nutty chocolate!

It's great as an advert though - I think I'll remember it. Maybe for the "yuck" factor!

BlueBelle Sat 22-Mar-25 08:04:03

Thanks for the links I don’t get either of them but then I don’t eat KFC or meat in general

What makes you uneasy Sleepyhead? there is an undertone of violence and threat but not sure if that’s a threat to humans or chickens but either way it’s daft and if it’s a threat to humans it’s going against KFC and if it’s a r threat to chickens ifs also going against KFC and I reckon who ever made it had been on the whacky baccy all night
Mad as a March hare and he/she/they probably need some medication

Astitchintime Sat 22-Mar-25 08:06:37

It is surreal and certainly does not inspire me to eat KFC. Ive never eaten it in the past and not inclined to now.

Millie22 Sat 22-Mar-25 08:15:31

It's weird.

I thought it was an easter egg and a chocolate lake.

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Mar-25 08:20:27

So did I Millie - would have been quite a good chocolate advert in my opinion!

I like the "odd" things I think... grin

BlueBelle Sat 22-Mar-25 08:26:16

Well odd can be good if you know what they are remotely getting at Notspahetti
I love Salvador Dalis work because his oddness tells a story and his way of interpreting his story and once you know the story you can agree or disagree but if you ve no idea what the story is as even you who likes the advert seem clueless what good is it doing Sure we re talking about it but that doesn’t seem to make anyone want to rush down to try a KFC out

Mollygo Sat 22-Mar-25 08:28:53

Thanks for the links, as I hadn’t seen either of them.
Any incomprehensible advert that took so long would have been switched off or provided an opportunity for a loo break so the message would be lost anyway.

keepingquiet Sat 22-Mar-25 08:31:26

It took a few viwings before I realised they had turned the 'stiff' person into chicken! Very weird.

I don't patronise KFC so a nice peice of art but not buying...

sf101 Sat 22-Mar-25 08:35:24

Just watched them. I thought they were great entertainment, laughed out loud at the dunk in the gravy.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 22-Mar-25 08:42:34

I think it's a stupid advert, just like their previous one. I don't eat KFC and this won't make me want to.

Babs03 Sat 22-Mar-25 08:43:37

Maybe the growing trend towards vegetarianism and veganism and away from fast food means using more surreal and convoluted ways of advertising.

OldFrill Sat 22-Mar-25 08:48:12

It's aimed at Gen Z but it's surprising how much comment it's generating across generations, positive and negative, and either way gets the brand media attention, so it's worked. It's creative and clever and it's not taking Gen Z for fools.
