Eastenders - anyone?

Just caught up with EE - my sometimes guilty pleasure.

I just record it and then binge from time to time when I'm in the mood, and I'm sure in the process I probably miss a few episodes from time to time.

So for any other watchers, has there been any explanation as to why Vicky, who has spent pretty much all of her life in the US or Australia has a cockney accent? And the boyfriend and son also have cockney accents. confused

It's a soap. Logic not required. I do like that Nicola. A really good new baddie!
Sick of Cindy.

Ah ok, thanks Aveline. I thought it might be a suspended reality soap situation.

I'm with you - Nicola is beautifully evil and Cindy is just dreadful. However many times they banish her, she just turns up again like a bad penny.

Agree, totally!!

I love Stenders.

I agree, but find it irritating, as when Vicky was the young girl with short hair sh had an American accent, so the reversion to cockney after years in Australia makes no sense.

Yeah, Cindy is a pantomime villain 😀

Oh yes, you've reminded me. They went to live in America first. I quite like the young lad who is the son of Vicky's bf.
Nicola is a good actress because for me she makes herself unlikeable! Cindy is awful.
I like Ravi's daughter, and her mum too.

I like them too. But on balance, and with due thought and consideration, I probably like Ravi more wink.

Incidentally, the actress who plays the Mother played a polar opposite character in All Creatures Great and Small. Good actress.

Not too keen on the new family at the moment, hopefully just need longer to settle in.
On a more positive note it has been said that Max Branning is returning to the Square. That will be worth waiting for.

Aveline Sun 18-May-25 07:04:23

Oh no. Not Max Branning and his totally inexplicable appeal to some (daft) women. He's awful. I did like Tanya though. You'd think she might take an interest in Lauren's new baby.

escaped Sun 18-May-25 07:04:24

I didn't know that. I had to look her up - Tristan's sort of girlfriend while they helped a dog.

escaped Sun 18-May-25 07:05:14

That was to ferry 23 about Ravi's wife.

kittylester Sun 18-May-25 08:11:09

I'm with ferry in preferring Ravi to his wife and daughter - nice as they are.

Doodledog Sun 18-May-25 09:53:20

Ravi is gorgeous. I can’t fully believe in the Panasar family though. They are all violent, even murderous individuals living in a residential community, which just doesn’t ring true for me. I guess murderers have to live somewhere though😀.

I just prefer my soaps to be domestic dramas, not gangster movies.

escaped Sun 18-May-25 10:28:07

You'd think after all the crime in Albert Square they'd have installed cctv everywhere there. And how does Jack Branning get access to case notes on pretty much everyone?

sodapop Sun 18-May-25 12:10:54

Can't get used to Fletch in his new role. I agree with others it's time for Cindy to go, her character is being used to create unlikely scenarios.
Anyone else think that Peter is an absolute drip and no support to Lauren at all.
Yes I know its not real but still...................

ferry23 Sun 18-May-25 12:36:59

Yes sodapop, I completely agree about Peter. Plus they have little on screen chemistry.

It's ok, when discussing soaps, we're allowed to think it's real.

Like wondering who's babysitting when every parent is in the pub.

Like wondering how they can all afford to be in the pub when they're complaining they don't have enough money for food.

Like wondering how Phil Mitchell always has a few thousand pounds floating around to lend to someone or buy a business.

kittylester Sun 18-May-25 13:57:56

And like going to the cafe, bar or restaurant to have deep, meaningful and private conversations.

Always wondered why none of them seemed to have a washing machine and also why keep buying cuppas in the ‘caff’ when they all live in the square. Is the launderette still there?
I watched EE from the start 1983 I think, but all that shouting ‘get outa my pub’ as well as the fights and someone always dying at Christmas, decided to go cold turkey and just stop which I did about 7 or 8 years ago.
If I catch the end of an episode I still recognise so many of the original characters, some not looking a day older ..…. It must be the east end air.

Aveline Sun 18-May-25 16:17:49

I do like Ravi but he looks a bit too inflated somehow. Overdone the weight training?

ferry23 Sun 18-May-25 16:31:33

Send him round. I'll deflate him.

Ahem!
Get to the back of the queue - if Ravi needs any help I am definitely first in line grin

Aveline Sun 18-May-25 17:25:01

He's only little. You should manage to subdue him quickly.

Hellogirl1 Sun 18-May-25 19:22:48

I read somewhere that the girl who plays 15 year old Avani is actually 24.

Shinamae Mon 19-May-25 00:03:49

I have always watched Emmerdale and up until a couple of years ago I was an avid watcher of Coronation Street but I found that got a bit boring so decided to watch EastEnders instead and have not regretting my decision…
I agree, Nicola is a great character..

That's always puzzled me, too.

The days when people used the launderette in lieu of having their own washing machines are, surely, long gone?
I think I stopped going to the launderette around the late 70s.

Maybe we are supposed to believe that the residents take washing, like sheets / towels, or items that are 'extra' to their normal wash load?
