new series Of Ridley..

Clawdy Tue 12-Aug-25 08:46:46

The episode wasn't about a child abduction though, it was about a jewellery robbery?

eazybee

Dull and boring.

And no trace of the baby Jesus and the donkey

grandMattie Tue 12-Aug-25 09:00:05

It's my first viewing but I wasn't that impressed - a bit leaden, both storyline and acting.

Oh dear! I wonder what I was watching then… 🤦‍♀️

I be given up

I really enjoyed Ridley and I think he has a very good voice. He played the main role in Kiss Me Kate which was in the West End all summer. It's funny how we are all different. The scenery around the Pennines was glorious.

It's OK and the level of violence is about all I can handle. Some things were downright disturbing eg Luther.
God knows, I don't need more horror in my head.

It's so boring and so like so many similar police dramas. It's actually irritating when I consider how many excellent books I've read and which would be great if televised.

I like Adrian Dunbar and it is a very easy watch with not too much difficulty in following and hearing but does he have to sing in EVERY episode? And it’s all slow and quiet sort of modern jazz which I hate anyway! He always comes in the bar, talks to Julie Graham (who must be bored out of her mind with the script), sings then leaves to solve the mystery. A bit samey for me.

I'm with you, Luckylegs in my critique of Ridley. We watch it because DH seems to like it (but fast forwards through the singing). The one thing that irritates me is that he gets away with murder going off on his own to investigate even though he isn't a police officer. I also don't like his tone in the interviews he does with suspects. It really grates on me.

I never saw the first series but watched this first episode and it was easy watching, no idea he could sing? I'll probably watch the whole series now, not great but worth a watch.

Oh I’m sad to see all the negative. I’m enjoying it. Love Adrian Dunbar…..it’s easy watching

I thought the first series was ruined by all the mooning over his dead family and his dull singing. I find this series, which I binged, much livelier, except his singing…he does have a nice voice, but all that mournful jazz… he did sing one musical theatre song but slowed it to a dirge… if only he could have sung more Kiss me Kate ! Overall I’d give the series 6/10, but I didn’t dislike it. ( yes I realise it is supposed to be a Jazz club, but a lot of Jazz is very lively!)

I had to make myself continue watching as it was rather dull but as soon as he started singing I switched off. I remember it from last time and its not my type of music at all. Shame really as I like a good crime drama.

I've watched it but am not keen, and particularly hate the singing! It's the sort of programme that I'll watch if I can't find anyting else.

Overall I think that the stories so far haven't been as interesting as those in Line of Duty.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Aug-25 15:09:46

I find it easy Sunday evening viewing, not overly violent or a complicated plot line.

Dishwasher whirring, full tummy from dinner, collapsed on the sofa with a glass of wine (a very large one if we have had family members over for dinner)…

dogsmother Sun 17-Aug-25 20:19:43

Rather enjoy the Sunday evening viewing, the singing is okay too. Not good enough to want to buy anything he might record but pleasant enough to remind me that I envy people who can actually sing. I wouldn’t even attempt a karaoke.

merlotgran Sun 17-Aug-25 20:34:24

I think this week’s story is better than last week’s.

The bloke from Downton Abbey is always a baddie. 😂

GrammaH Mon 18-Aug-25 07:52:36

We're in the minority then as we liked the first series and are getting into the 2nd. Last night's was better than the first, a good way to spend a Sunday evening together. I'm not keen on Adrian's singing in it though but we did enjoy him in Kiss Me Kate and thought he played the role well.

Clawdy Mon 18-Aug-25 08:20:56

Yes, last night's was better, quite a few good twists. I'm actually getting used to the singing now! Rather liked the Wild Mountain Thyme bit.

Mary59nana Mon 18-Aug-25 08:41:07

I am loving this binge watch started Saturday on Gransnet recomendation and will finish watching today.

Thank you ladies

sodapop Mon 18-Aug-25 12:46:36

I agree Clawdy last night's episode was better, I quite enjoyed the singing too. Easy watching, not too convoluted.

Visgir1 Mon 18-Aug-25 13:20:04

Much better last night..

Aldom Mon 18-Aug-25 13:49:12

I watched the first series and enjoyed it as easy viewing. When I switched on the new series and Ridley walked into the bar and started singing I assumed I'd made a mistake, thought I had seen the episode before, so switched off. I now realise from reading the thread that the singing is a regular thing. Better take a look again methinks. grin
