So, I've heard of 8 of the celebrities but some of those I've literally just heard the names - don't know what they actually do.

Given my interests though, it's unlikely I would be able to identify a reality "celebrity" (I mean the Love Island type shows) a blogger/vlogger/influencer or most sports people.

Anyone know all of them?

We have our youngest GS here, when Alex Kingston came down the stairs, he got so excited as he thought it was me…

Wow!!
😁

I'm in
Love a bit of Strictly!

Not many folks have seen me with curls for over 30 years 😹

I think I should take him to specsavers 👓

Great opening show. Think this year will be a good one 👍

Also read the other day that Cheryl Baker, ex Bucks Fizz, has ‘applied’ every year to be on, but never been approached.

Unsure if that’s true though.

She would probably qualify for the ‘older lady’ spot now.

😂

I heard her say it.

I’ve never watched Strictly. Only because over the years flitting between here and Málaga I used to miss so many episodes I gave up.

But I’m posting now just to say, I bet I’m not the only one here tonight who’s just Googled Alex Kingston to get some idea of what GG13 looks like! 😁

Turned it off after a few minutes. I cannot bear the gurning Claudia Winkleman. She spoils the show and the stupid questions and comments she makes later in the programme annoy me.

I knew about 8 of the celebrities, I enjoy the dancing. I did Google Alex Kingston FGT I know what one of the grans looks like now.

😁

I too, switched it off. Phoney and on for too long.
Wish other stations would show some competition.

Of course not! 😁

Started to watch last night but got bored and did something else until the dancing at the end.
I do enjoy it and will watch on record so we can fast forward the bits in between the dancing.

Bored with it already!

Isn't the first one usually boring?
I always think so.

Sparklefizz Sun 21-Sept-25 08:29:26

The first episode is always cheesy and everyone is over-acting/reacting, but as I knew hardly any of the contestants, I made myself watch it to learn more about them.

I always enjoy the sportsmen and women because they work extremely hard, they are used to taking constructive criticism without pouting, and will go off and practise what they've been told.

I assume Dianne has taken medical advice before doing hours of training whilst pregnant. Rather her than me when I was preggie.

I see Lewis Cope was in "Billy Elliott" so he's already a dancer.

Anyway, let the dancing commence ...... That's Saturday nights sorted! smile

Greeting dance partners is so over the top, I have only heard of two

Clawdy Sun 21-Sept-25 08:36:58

Looking forward to next week, but wish I knew more of the "celebs".

I was wondering last night if you were watching as you usually start the thread.

Grannynannywanny Sun 21-Sept-25 08:45:39

I enjoyed most of last night’s show. Recognised most of the celebs. There a couple of them I find rather irritating any time I see them on tv and I suspect Strictly won’t make me feel any different about them.

I loved seeing Chris and Diane’s final dance. I read earlier this week that Diane is pregnant. She is feeling very well and full of energy and looking forward to competing with her partner.

They have revealed the baby is a boy. So she’s obviously passed the early stages and will be another 12 weeks further along if she survives to the final again this year. She’s already filmed most of the professional dances.

Parsley3 Sun 21-Sept-25 08:53:02

Strictly, as usual, has covered all the bases for inclusion which is a positive thing but it does need a bit of a presentation shake up. They could ditch the staged excitement of meeting the partners for a start. I did laugh at La Voix though and now that I have watched the first one I am interested to see how he gets on.

I didn't start a new thread as ferry23 had beaten me to it a month ago and I thought it would be confusing to have another one.... but yes, I will be watching (and it is nice to have been missed smile )

* Marking this thread to keep abreast while I'm in France. As usual the start of this show heralds my decision to make my way home for the autumn.
Thank you all.

Maremia Sun 21-Sept-25 09:38:43

Love the way they go from stumbling around to becoming such slick performers. The more 'ordinary ' they begin the better.

Totally agree on this 👍

Quite apart from all the troubles that seem to accompany Thomas Skinner his dancing is also rubbish!

I would guess Diane is partnered with Stefan more for the fact that he is in the older age bracket and perhaps their dances will be slightly energetic, rather than the Aussie connection.

The first show is always a bit of a yawnfest because they milk it at every opportunity, but it wouldn't be Autumn without a bit of Strictly. smile

Allira Sun 21-Sept-25 10:59:07

Thomas Skinner - I had to look him up and sort of recognise his face.

However, apart from a couple of celebs, I rarely know any of the contestants. Perhaps I should have watched last night to find out more but 😴
