How Do you get through the day ?

What makes so many people harsh and critical ? Are they really so miserable they want to look for what is wrong instead of some semblance of gratitude for life ? John Lennon had a song I relate to. Nobody told me there’d be days like these.

What helps you get through the day ? I have tea and listen to songs like “White Bird” by It’s a Beautiful Day. Music that reveals our humanity. It amazes me how some people make the world a better place. Without reason.

The man in the picture would go to Carmel beach and play his bagpipes before sunset.

Love to walk on Carmel beach. Just because.

Music, chatting to people, choosing gratitude over envy and blame as much as I can.

Watch Leonard Cohen when you feel the cruel and sadness and loss at times, and remember hope and beauty

"Ring the bells, that still, can ring:
Forget your perfect, offering
There's a crack, a crack, in everything:

Thats how the light gets in

I have never had a problem getting through the day unless I had a very specific reason for being sad, then I just keep going. The best way to get through the day is to keep busy so that you have no time to think.

Remember that life is too short.

I battle with depression on a daily basis and it is a sod!

Drift along with my crafts and happy memories with friends, family and things in the past. We are only here once and there is no dress rehearsal.

When I feel good then I feel wonderful but the dark days can swamp me.

Remember there are good people out there as well as bad and we have to blot the bad ones out.

Love life and drift along like a feather on the wind. Grab life by the wings and fly with it.

I have had a bad past with a wife beating husband so my head is not right but I love so many good people that have helped me on this wonderful path.

Try to be good and kind and you will always win through.

Love and hugs to you all.

I’m only human after all.

Look at this picture and just empty your mind and think beautiful thoughts. We are all on this journey together. Hugs.

I never have a problem getting through the day I m physically pretty active, then I m worn out enough to fall asleep 🤣 except tonight when I m pretty awake went and did some washing up I d left at 2 am will drift off again in a bit

If I get sad I find something active to do takes my mind off it

I have an annoyingly positive outlook

Beautifully put, whywhywhy. Hard to learn, best to do.

I walk in green spaces, where there are trees, grass, hedges...birdsong, dogwalkers who smile and say Hi.

I enjoy my food, grateful for every meal, every cuppa, every treat, every snack...we are so lucky to have such abundance.

I potter in the garden and grow some fruit and veg.

I read [lots] and learn, get inspired, admire the skill of the authors and respect their life stories.

I listen to music I love, makes me relive memories, dance and cry...with sadness or happiness.

I watch videos of babies laughing, dogs being silly, people dancing, people being kind to others...

I daydream or plan a future project.

I usually do all of the above on the same day.
Not all days are great, but I try to make each day enjoyable in some way...or look forward to the next day being better or at least different.

At the moment life is really hard, DH very unwell, so most of my day is spent caring for him, but I try to find a pocket of time during the day when I can just sit and be still. Nothing else. Being still had previously never struck me as a thing, but have discovered how restorative it can be.

PrinceofCarmel, "it's A beautiful day". One of my favourite albums, White Bird of course being a beautiful touching song.
Music has been the timeliness of my life and has seen me through the dark and the good days.
I love to walk my local beach daily, weather permitting, the sounds calm me.
I have some lovely friends, online and off who have picked me up in my times off need
I'm a glass half full person.

Another, It’s A Beautiful Day fan here. My album is rather battered though after decades of being played.
Music enriches every day of my life.

Be very grateful for what you can still do.My DH has now become completely deaf. He loved music but he's amazingly philosophical about it as Beethoven was so affected.
So we are working on making life as good as possible which has challenges.

Bluebird, very good advice.

Bridie22 Mon 18-Aug-25 08:43:05

Still playable

I'm with BlueBelle on this. I just get on with what's needing done. I read watch TV and surf the net. No naval gazing required.

I stop introspective thinking -cycles by deliberately thinking about something that is actually interesting.

I allocate myself some time for reading the bad news in the paper then I do something else.

If I may float the idea of Dame Evelyn Glennie, a Scottish percussionist , who is profoundly deaf—for her ability to feel music through vibrations. Only percussion, but it may be better than no music at all for your husband

I allow willowherb in my garden to grow right up to my windows, My name for it is "the summer clock" because it goes through all the stages of its growth right on time. At present it has its pretty fluff on it.

Tx Caleo. Will look her up.

It depends on what my shifts are like, my dinner and breakfast are often very late at night or early hours! But a mug of PG Tips.

A pack of aah! Bisto Bangers, mash, peas and gravy.... my comfort food twice weekly!

Little cutie birdies singing.

I'm currently reading Fallen by Karin Slaughter and Lost Cause by Rachel Lynch.

Buying a gorgeous bunch of sunflowers for my bedroom windowsill. I get them from a local convenience store that I'm always in, multiple times a week, but they don't look after their flowers and plants properly, always on discount and a bit raggedy, so I rescue a lot of the poor babies that are dying a bit!

Meeting various doggies as I'm out!

I love winter and storms, so they always make my day.

Watching horror and psycho films on my laptop - last night I watched The Ashcroft Entity, also known as The Unholy, with Kelly Goudie, and also Morgan: Killer Doll with Bix Krieger.

Having a jolly good laugh!

Loads of other stuff!

Just played the Leonard Cohen song.
I’ve always loved him and his beautiful words.

Thanks for the link Wyllow. I’ve sent it on to like minded friends xx

Wyllow3 Mon 18-Aug-25 09:59:02

He links, in those quite profound words, the personal and the political, without banging any specific political "drum". The humility and the defiance stand out.

If anyone wants to go further down his road, at the end of a long complex life, he then produced this song, "Healing":

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUB1O2cT2gM&list=RDMUB1O2cT2gM&start_radio=1

"O, gather up the brokenness
Bring it to me now
The fragrance of those promises
You never dared to vow

The splinters that you carried
The cross you left behind

Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind

And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb...

....Behold the gates of mercy
In arbitrary space
And none of us deserving
Of cruelty or the grace
O, solitude of longing
Where love has been confined.....

O, see the darkness yielding
That tore the light apart
Come healing of the reason
Come healing of the heart

O, troubledness concealing
An undivided love.....

O, longing of the branches
To lift the little bud
O, longing of the arteries
To purify the blood....

etc

One day a week I go to special Pilates which provides special ways of working and another I go to Chairyoga which I thoroughly enjoy. In between I read a lot, potter about, catch up on various things, watch my favourite television programmes - and sleep!

keepingquiet Mon 18-Aug-25 10:18:05

I pray in the morning and work through the day doing house jobs, shopping etc.

I listen to podcasts to keep the boredom at bay.

I cook different things for my evening meal and enjoy whatever company I have- go for coffee or lunch with friends, take a walk, the usual things.

In the evening I watch a little TV and listen to my bed-time stories on the phone that help me drift off.

I think I have a very good life and am grateful for it.

Every day has its joys and challenges just like everyone elses.

Thinking of you, Babs03. It is the worst thing when someone you love is suffering. You feel so helpless.
I wish I could help. The most I can do is offer up a prayer.
Sending you and your husband a big virtual hug.
