Time for the next thread.

Charleygirl5 Tue 28-Oct-25 13:48:43

Thank you. I never watched it.

Curlywhirly Tue 28-Oct-25 14:21:11

Many thanks Doodledog and Grannynannywanny. I can keep up now!

Clawdy Tue 28-Oct-25 18:16:56

Bizarre episode. Brian falling asleep at the pub table was funny though.

Maggiemaybe Tue 28-Oct-25 18:50:20

Well that was one of the weirdest episodes yet - a bit like a fever dream. grin I’m guessing it’s some sort of reset, what with the flood of new family members, most of whom seem remarkably over-excited to see one another, considering they haven’t been in touch or even mentioned for years. The sooner precocious Susie goes up to her bedroom like the rest of the Corrie offspring, never to be seen again, the better, imho. And yes, the lock-in was absurd - the new owners obviously haven’t a penny to bless themselves with, but can splash the cash around like drunken sailors, instead of just getting their cases unpacked like normal folk.

But oh, Mrs Doyle! I’ll happily overlook all the above for the joy of seeing her on the cobbles!

Are you aware that there doesn't appear to be an episode on this evening as football (what else) takes precedence? I have looked but cannot find it.

Aveline Wed 29-Oct-25 15:23:17

It's on tomorrow night instead

Aveline Wed 29-Oct-25 15:26:35

Charleygirl if you've never seen Father Ted then tonight's a great time to seek it out. Check channel 4 i-player.

Charleygirl5 Wed 29-Oct-25 15:28:53

Thanks but there would be too many episodes to watch if I liked it.

Aveline Wed 29-Oct-25 15:30:27

Sadly not as the lead actor very unexpectedly died.

Grannynannywanny Wed 29-Oct-25 15:43:49

I think there were only a total of 20 odd episodes of Father Ted. I’ve watched them all several times over the years 😀

Clawdy

Bizarre episode. Brian falling asleep at the pub table was funny though.

It was funny Clawdy especially when he sat up with a beer mat stuck to his face smile

Charleygirl5 Wed 29-Oct-25 18:26:51

Is Father Ted a comedy? I know zilch about it, probably on my own.

Grannynannywanny Wed 29-Oct-25 18:52:26

Yes Charleygirl5 it’s multi award winning comedy about 3 priests who have been banished by their bishop to live on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Their very funny housekeeper Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) has just arrived in the Rovers as Eva’s mother in law.

Bukkie Wed 29-Oct-25 19:14:49

I roo laughed out loud at Brian with the beer mat stuck to his face. I always thought Eva was a great character and am glad to see her back. Susie was exactly the type of daughter I expected Eva to have and at least she can act unlike other child actors like Jack.

Erica23 Wed 29-Oct-25 19:50:34

Oh my goodness I’m completely lost ! I’ve only been half watching for a while now but after tuning in since the beginning I’m feeling very bereft. I don’t know wether to try and catch up with it all or just give in 😢

Sarnia Thu 30-Oct-25 21:16:57

I think there may be light at the end of a very long tunnel. After months of ridiculous storylines of criminals, dodgy police and gay sex it looks like Eva and her family may save the day.
All of them can act and I can see some very good storylines surrounding the relationship of Eva and her mother-in-law.

Charleygirl5 Thu 30-Oct-25 22:45:36

Thank God no sign of Theo.

Thanks, Grannywannynanny I am probably the only person who didn't have a clue about Father Ted.

BlueBelle Fri 31-Oct-25 07:38:05

Sarnia I couldn’t disagree more, that totally manic, loud uninspiring family turning up out of the blue has made me far more likely to switch my brain off as it descends into lalaland

The way the husband grabbed Karl I don’t think you are going to lose any violence at all, and surely the most unlikely father to Olly !!! do they just grab anyone to be a parent to an adult child in these soaps

BlueBelle Fri 31-Oct-25 07:40:02

Erica23 I d not bother trying to work it all out it ll all change by the time you think you’ve ‘got it’

Trouble is I just don’t think I actually ‘like’ any characters in it now

Grannycool52 Fri 31-Oct-25 20:43:43

In the 3 episodes this week, I haven't seen a single person pay for a drink in the Rovers. Eva's pub will be out of business very quickly if this goes on!
I wish Becky would hurry back to Spain.

Aveline Fri 31-Oct-25 21:25:35

Clint is working hard with two jobs behind a bar: the Rovers and the Commodore.

Primrose53 Fri 31-Oct-25 21:29:26

Father Ted was the most brilliant TV programme ever and Mrs Doyle was the perfect housekeeper for Father Ted, The childlike Father Dougal and the drunken, foul mouthed Father Jack.

The programme’s creator, the hugely talented comedy writer, Graham Lineham has been in the news lately.

Calendargirl Sat 01-Nov-25 07:52:06

The punch bowl looked a bit small to me. Surely there should have been a fancy ladle with it?

If it were me, I wouldn’t have let a virtual stranger rummage through my sideboard. Goodness knows what they might uncover!

And what did Maggie see?🤔

The start of another mystery.

Aveline Sat 01-Nov-25 07:52:33

charleygirl do watch Father Ted. You won't regret it!

Grannynannywanny Sat 01-Nov-25 08:16:09

I might be in the minority but I’ve enjoyed the arrival of the latest occupants of the Rovers.

I think Maggie will be an interesting character. She was lovely with Asha but there’s undoubtedly a hard woman who will surface as required.

Ben is a tough guy and I was glad to see him threatening the odious Carl. He’s sunk to a new low in his treatment of Debbie.

I don’t often find much to laugh at in Corrie but I laughed out loud when Maggie attracted Adam’s attention by calling out Eva’s ex. Then joked every man in the bar turned round when she said it.

Ken looked like he had a twinkle in his eye when he met Maggie. I hope that’s not going to lead anywhere 😀
