As a film being developed by a production company in Birmingham. Wonderful.

And so do I !

Oh goodie!

I loved the mice and often quote them to myself when cleaning,
'We will rub it, we will scrub it, we will make it nice and clean!'

Beechnut

Hello everybody 👋

Can't find mine, he might have climbed into the bag for the charity shop by mistake 😥

I think it used to be shown on Sunday mornings. I remember watching it with my children.

Sandra Kerr ( Nancy Kerr’s mother) did the music for Bagpuss. There is a Folk on Foot podcast in which she talks about it on a walk by the river in Warkworth where she lives. Her house ( lucky her) is close to the river*.It’s one of my favourite walks. I always think I’ll see mole and ratty row by in a little boat. My Bagpuss lives alongside my Clangers.
*mind you, it does flood a lot…

It was my daughter's favourite programme - but guess what her name is!

Grandmafrench Tue 09-Sept-25 11:36:05

How we all loved that 'saggy old cloth cat'.

Aveline Tue 09-Sept-25 11:54:24

Ferry23 Dr Yaffle?

Emily or Madeleine?

I loved the mice on the mice organ, Charlie Mouse in particular, so cute.

Educational too, as I learned that yaffle is an old English name for a green woodpecker. (It was Professor Yaffle).

My son bought me a Bagpuss but I was shocked to discover he was pink!... I still have him though, nestled in a basket of soft toes some belonging to DH and the rest to Molly the dog. BTW can very highly recommend Oliver Postgate's wonderful memoire....

Toys not toes!!

My DD loved Bagpuss. She was glued to the TV when it was on.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 09-Sept-25 14:21:56

They showed the new bagpuss on breakfast TV this morning, doesn’t look anything like bagpuss.

The only thing in common is the pink and white stripes.

AGAA4 Tue 09-Sept-25 14:30:20

I hope they still say "wake up and look at this thing that I bring".

Allira Tue 09-Sept-25 15:01:27

Mine must have been the real Bagpuss and that's why he's disappeared from this house.
He's going to be on screen again!

Ilovedogs22 Tue 09-Sept-25 17:21:08

Ohh lovely, I still have my son's old Bagpuss but he's going to the charity shop as we're down-sizing.
Someone will love him even if he's only worth about 20p.
What lovely TV programmes we had then, Follyfoot was my favourite, as I had a lovely sturdy grey horse called Major.

Oh no GrannyGravy! I hope saggy, baggy, old Bagpuss hasn't been..... "Done!" Just like almost everyone on the Box! 🤔

You can see a real Bagpuss (apparently 2 were made) in the Beanie Institute museum in Canterbury. Was there a couple of weeks ago. Also the real Professor Yaffles. I was quite emotional and starstruck when I saw him. Teared up 🙄! Madeleine and mice also there and various other things Oliver Postgate (Clangers etc). Highly recommend!

I should have said that the Canterbury Beaney (not Beanie) exhibit relates largely to puppet maker Per Firmin who lived in that area. Emily was his daughter.
