Went to see the final Downton film today.
We enjoyed it, usual Downton formula and a good ending. Feel a bit sad that it's all over ?

I saw the film yesterday with a friend, it is a good thing it has come to an end. I found the various house sales and purchases a bit confusing. They were selling Downton House which from memory was in a different part of the country, Robert and Cora were moving into the Dower House and Mary would be living in Downton Abbey. Then there was the possible purchase of a flat in London presumably for the use of the family. Have I got this right?

I found some of the references to the children confusing. Who is Peter that Edith was keen to go home to? When did Mary have a girl and who with?
I will definitely watch it again when it appears on TV so I can pause and rewind bits. I went to the cinema with DD and we were both wishing we could say out loud, ‘Who’s that again?’ 😂

I enjoyed it but agree with a lot of Maw’s comments.

My one criticism about this last film which was bringing everything together is.......

"Why no mention of Aunt Rosamund" ?

She was a big part of the family from the beginning, no one mentioned her at all and yet the silly Uncle from America got shipped over to take up far too much screen time.

We enjoyed it but did miss the humour between Maggie Smith’s character and Penelope Wilton’s.
RIP Maggie Smith.

Peter is presumably Edith and Bertie’s son.
Mary has a daughter with Henry (Caroline?)
These must be in one or both of the feature films but as I can’t really remember them, I’m not sure which.
My recollection is however that they were both better than The Grand Finale.

Thanks, Maw. I guessed Peter was Edith’s son but thought it was a shame there were so few mentions/appearances of the children.
In the scene where Noel Coward performs there seemed to be loads of them watching from the gallery but as it was a blink and you’ll miss it scene I could be wrong. Anna and Bates’s son was probably up there as well.
