We have always been with Virgin but now thinking of changing to sky.
Who are you with and are you happy with the service?

crazygranmda Thu 20-Nov-25 16:45:32

Left Virgin over a year ago due to constant problems and awful customer care. Moved to Sky - no problems, better deal and good customer care.

I'm with Vodaphone, broadband and digital phone line. Just renewed my contract at £21 per month. Just shop around there are big savings to be made.

What is Manhattan box? We have an aerial anyway.

Here you go.
You’re half way there already with an aerial.

Used to be with Virgin. Their prices kept on increasing, with nothing any better for what we paid.
Now use a Freeview box plus Firestick and don't miss Virgin. (Did have to find another internet provider)

Jaycee19, I changed my email address to gmail after Virgin said they were discontinuing the .ntlworld service and I also have not been able to update it on here.

I have TV (a middle value bundle), phone and their lowest level of Broadband and they have increased my monthly payments to a horrendous £103pm. Now I have my new email address sorted and have also had a TV aerial installed, next time they P--- me off, I'm leaving.
It would mean losing the programmes I have stored on my TIVO unfortunately, but that would have happened anyway if I had allowed them to "upgrade" my box to the even more expensive, next-to-useless, replacement. There is no such thing as a loyalty discount with Virgin. I have been with them since Buffy the Vampire Slayer was first being shown, nearly 30 years ago.

I'm not sure what Broadband I would change to. I might try Toob. My neighbour says it is fine, but I will first have to check if I can have a "Landline" with them as I don't use a mobile.

Aveline Thu 20-Nov-25 20:45:23

Thanks but no thanks Petra. We're very happy with our current set up. The broadband is much better with the EE equipment than it was with the BT setup.

Jaycee19 Thu 20-Nov-25 22:10:41

Aely, I have also been with Virgin since Buffy.

I too have been with Plusnet for a number of years, never had any problems and the Customer Service is excellent. When changed my tv for a newer one I couldn't connect I player. I phoned Plusnet and I didn't get put in a queue, and she talked me through the whole thing. She then phoned me a couple of days later to ask if it was all running smoothly. I don't think I'll change to a different provider.

Sounds good

We have Freeview and pay for streaming channels as we need them. We also have Toob fibre Broadband. We were with Virgin since their starting days as Cable & Wireless but became disenchanted when the bills got bigger and the service was dire. Before we went to Toob, we had Plusnet, NowTV and Vodafone Broadband. They gave us slower speeds but were far more reliable than Virgin. After joining Toob, we had a slight problem which was resolved without long waiting times on the phone and was completely successful the first time of calling. I can't say the same of Virgin.

Ican Do you find it is cheaper to having different companies rather than a bundle? Thanks

Definitely.

We are with BT, they are on the dear side but we have always had them, if there has been a problem they’ve sorted it quickly so don’t want to change.

BlueBelle Sun 23-Nov-25 07:28:06

Chestnut I pay £38 with EE but that does include my landline in the bundle, when I renew it I will go for a bundle without the landline as now I really only use it when I can’t find my mobile and need to hear the ring to locate it.
I have been with EE years and have never had a problem they are very quick to put things right if your internet goes down or anything like that

I've been with BT (EE) forever but would like to get rid of the £49.99 per month (for broadband/TV box/landline).

I don't understand how I can ditch BT and use a Manhattan box for recording TV when I still need a broadband provider. I don't want the landline but surely you need that for broadband?

Aveline Sun 23-Nov-25 15:17:31

No. If you've got broadband you don't need a landline. We got rid of ours as only sales people or scammers ever used it.

Erica23 Sun 23-Nov-25 15:24:27

We’ve just renewed our package with sky. They’ve installed fibre free. The basic tv package and fibre is £37 a month.
Having said that we didn’t realise we could have bought a Freesat box. and after the initial cost saved ourselves £15 a month.
We’re not up on these things, but will look into it next time.

Thank you all. We have been offered a new deal with Virgin. It would not have happened if we had not contacted Sky first who in turn contacted Virgin.
We talked to a Scottish man and now pay £55 instead of £77. Get Netflix and any time phone calls.

Aveline Mon 24-Nov-25 16:35:26

It's all so time consuming though. So much time in the phone trying to find the best deals. It's the same for electric bills etc. I don't know how people who are working manage.

jobieP Wed 26-Nov-25 17:19:38

Aveline So true. Nothing seems straightforward now.
I told myself last night I wouldn't go on my tablet today
But here I am.hmm

melp1 Sun 30-Nov-25 16:12:31

Well I've been with Virgin for over 4 years broadband only paying £30 a month, when my contract ended they offered the same service 250 speed for £60 a month. I knew if I phoned they would probably reduce it but to be honest I get fed up of doing this every time my contract ended so decided to switch broadband to Vodafone. Really happy with the switch, full fibre, speed 500 and cost £27.00 a month. I'd recommend Vodafone.

petra Sun 30-Nov-25 16:30:11

Chestnut

I havnt had a landline for 25 years.
I have a Manhatton box through which I receive all terrestrial tv. My broadband is £25 per month.

Oldnproud Sun 30-Nov-25 16:43:45

How long have you been with Vodaphone now, *melp1*?

My problem with them is that they start sending out renewal texts/emails long before renewal is actually due and without mentioning a specific date. Also, I have both a mobile phone contract and a broadband contract with them, totally separate from each other ( the mobile contract pre-existed the broadband contract) - their messages don't say which of the two they are referring to. If you are not on the ball, you can end up 'renewing' - always at a higher price - long before it is necessary. Right now I am in this exact situation again right now and am so sick of this that I considering totally ditching them because of it!
