I have just seen the Bake Off Prue Leith thread.

I have never watched Bake Off, Strictly, BGT, Sewing Bee, Traitors etc.

Am I the only one?

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 22-Jan-26 18:40:09

I've never watched any of those things

Chardy Thu 22-Jan-26 18:56:41

Strictly & Sewing Bee only. I did watch all the Wool thing too

And soaps went decades ago having watched Corrie for 40yrs and EastEnders for 20 because I added up how many hours I was wasting

I have just started watching The Great Pottery Throw down. It’s great imo.

Never watched the Traitors.

I resisted Strictly for about the first 10 years; but then I saw a clip of the dancing & decided to give it a go - I now pause it for about 15 minutes at the beginning so that I can fast forward through all the nonsense & just get the joy of the dance (and of those oh-so-talented singers & musicians!). However, depending on who replaces Tess & Claudia I may well stop watching now.
I do watch Sewing Bee sometimes, but it very much depends on the host for each season.
Never watched any of the other reality shows, & have no wish to!

I have never watched Bake Off, BGT, Sewing Bee, Traitors or soap operas. I did watch one series of Strictly when my daughter was working on it as a runner and we went to the live show in the studio. That was fascinating. I now only watch iPlayer and generally choose documentaries, drama or films. In Covid I binge watched comedy to try and escape from reality for an hour or two.

Loved BGT, but now there is hardly ever anyone from Britain on it

Mojack26 Thu 22-Jan-26 21:26:45

I hate majority of these programmes! Only 2 I watch Strictly and Masterchef....the rest 😴😴😴😴. Each to their own

Grandma70s Thu 22-Jan-26 21:44:04

I’ve never watched any of those programmes, and yet I manage to watch a lot of television. News, current affairs, documentaries, selected comedy.

I don't watch much TV but I've dipped into most of the popular reality programmes over the years and enjoyed some and not others. I love watching the traitors, and much to my surprise got into Married at first sight during lockdown. Tbh I'm open to most programmes but will ditch them if I don't get on with them. They provide light relief which is good for my soul.

I don’t enjoy reality TV, soaps, quizzes or celebrity culture. Fortunately the people I know don’t talk about tv, so that’s ok. I do like some detective series and a good film or documentary. Quite often the tv is off and I’m doing a puzzle or playing music or knitting/ crocheting. It’s interesting to hear about each other’s hobbies and interests.

The best way to watch current television is through a Sky box. You can then record the programmes that you like and fast forward through the adverts and the bits of the programme you don't like. For example the inane bits of Strictly.

Unfortunately you have to subscribe to Sky, something I will never do again!

With a smart TV there really isn’t any need for Sky.

I have watched some of these programmes in their early years and BGT back in the day when Simon Cowell looked human, but I CBA with all the fakery of many of them now. I think when many started, they were a new format and interesting, but many have run their course and become too samey.

BlueBelle Fri 23-Jan-26 08:15:05

I m not able to pay for other stuff like Amazon Sky etc it’s tough enough paying the tv licence I have a smart Tv so can find other things I guess
I ve occasionally landed on Naked Attraction by mistake and just find it so funny but pretty boring and ‘why would you ‘ I realise why we wear clothes

Foxie I watched a couple of seasons of MAFS when my grown up grandkids were either visiting here or talking about it I found it ever so funny and watched it with glee for a couple of seasons but I m past it now

I do watch the A and E, GP practice, border control type programmes when nothing else is on they are better than nothing
I love a good documentary or drama but they are so few around A lot of the dramas I start and get so disappointed

I certainly wouldn’t watch these reality type programmes as first choice if there were better things on

I never sit just watching TV I m always doing a jigsaw or drawing sorting photos etc etc or something while it’s on but it is company when you are living alone and gives me a laugh something badly needed nowadays

Traitors is my favourite may well go off it if they have too many

BlueBelle -
Do you have freeserve on your TV ?
I do and I watch a lot of programmes .

I never got the appeal of Neighbours when it was very popular in the late eighties. To me, it was a badly acted, badly made Australian soap where you could see the plots a mile off. I watched it twice and that was enough for me, and was considered a bit odd among my peers for not liking Neighbours.
Mind you, I don't even watch England when they're in a final of a football or rugby tournament as these were sports I hated playing as a kid. I can remember when England won the RUWC 23 years ago in Australia, I was sleeping off a hangover and didn't know or cared they'd won until late in the day.

Basgetti Sat 24-Jan-26 12:27:29

No, I don’t watch any of those either, no “reality” tv really. Enjoy baking and sewing but the thought of watching other people doing so sounds a bit dull.
The only time I’ve ever seen a bit of the jungle one was when a clip of Farage bathing under a waterfall appeared on another programme. Enough to put me off of that one for life 🤮.

MayBee70 Sat 24-Jan-26 14:57:29

I saw a clip from Coronation Street the other night; couldn’t believe what I was watching. Oh for soaps that aren’t full of murders and disasters; when did that become the norm? Back in the day I used to watch Crossroads and probably watched Eastenders at one time. Brookside used to be very good and was quite ground breaking. Always watched Neighbours in its heyday, too.

Bassoues Sat 24-Jan-26 15:21:08

Don't watch any of those.
Apart from 'Gone Fishing', none of the others appeal to me.
Gone fishing is such a lovely relaxed and often very funny banter programme which is just what I need when insomnia hits..again!

Blinko Sat 24-Jan-26 15:22:54

I am heartily peed off with the incessant promotion of Traitors on BBC.

Just needed to say it...

Wyllow3 Sat 24-Jan-26 15:31:11

Oh, me too!!! Just watching the News and Look North as I like to each day it was just obsessive.
I might make myself to write them an email...🤨.

NannyC1 Sat 24-Jan-26 16:38:04

I watched The Great Pottery Throwdown for a few seasons, now I'm on my 2nd college course doing ceramics. My daughter loves The Sewing Bee and it's inspired her to get a sewing machine and start making things.

Oh I love Gone fishing. As you say, relaxing and funny banter. A good pair together and love Ted the dog. smile

Greyduster Sat 24-Jan-26 17:03:15

It makes me feel better because they seem to catch even fewer fish than I do😂! Can’t beat the banter though!

Silvershadow Sat 24-Jan-26 17:19:00

I don’t watch them. I like Strictly but only the actual dancing. Not all the screaming but maybe with new presenters that might stop. I find I’m recording more and more now to watch instead of all these Traitors, BGT, Masked Singer etc. oh for the days of a good Agatha Christie and John Nettles in Midsomer Murders.
