Sad to read that actress Catherine O’Hara has died aged 71. She was a wonderful performer. I watched Home Alone recently for the umpteenth time with my grandchildren.

My absolute favourite performance was as Moira Rose in the very funny series Schitt’s Creek . I’ve watched the entire series twice over and I love it.

and avoid American films wherever
I can She’s not that old is she I think of 71 as very young it says short illness so sounds a bit sudden

My DDs are devastated - brought up on Home Alone, Beetlejuice and later Schitts Creek. Kevin!!!

Really sad news indeed. She was absolutely iconic as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek, as well as Home Alone.

RIP 💐

Great films, and family memories

She was an underrated actress who was good at both comedy and drama. 71 is no age at all

This is so sad and such a talented actor. RIP Catherine. We loved her in Home Alone and especially Schitts Creek. 💐

Was just talking about Shitt's Creek today.

Maggymay Fri 30-Jan-26 21:40:19

We have just finished watching the entire series of Schitts Creek. Catherine was brilliant in the part of Moira Rose.

petra Fri 30-Jan-26 21:51:51

We have just finished the whole series for the 3rd time.
Obviously we are huge fans of Schitts Creek. ❤️
Such clever casting 😂

"I feel like we forgot something,"
"We did it! We forgot Kevin!".
Classic!

I've not watched Schitts Creek. Time to do so, I think.

RIP Catherine O’Hara

Schitts Creek is an absolute classic and Catherine as Moira Rose a triumph.
It took me several episodes to realise she was Kevin’s mum in home alone.
RIP Catherine.

You’re missing out on a whole lot of fantastic films.

She was unforgettable as Moira in Schitts Creek. Absolutely brilliant actress. So sad that she's died comparatively young. RIP.

I have never heard of this actress so was bemused to see all the publicity around her.
I honestly think that 71 only seems young to those a bit older than that. It’s not a bad life if you reach that age really.

71 seems young these days.

The average life expectancy for women in Canada is 84 - 85 years, but as Catherine O'Hara lived in the USA I assume we should use that criterion, which is 81 years.

I did remember her as Kevin's mum in the Home Alone films. I didn't watch Schitts Creek but I gather she had a resurgence of her career in that.

I'm sorry to hear she's died, 71 isn't that old these days.

Delila Sat 31-Jan-26 10:42:18

Yes, such sad news….. I might have to watch Schitt’s Creek all over again in her honour flowers

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Jan-26 10:43:56

I am amazed at posters who have children and grandchildren not knowing her from Home Alone 🤷‍♀️

I personally do not know any young adults or children who haven’t seen any of the Alone films

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Jan-26 10:45:33

I thought Schitts Creek along with Mare of East Town were compulsory viewing during lockdown 📺

Allira Sat 31-Jan-26 10:56:56

Mare of East Town
Never heard of it although DIL did recommend Schitts Creek.

Allira Sat 31-Jan-26 10:58:12

Were they on Netflix?
We don't have Netflix, perhaps that explains it!

TerriBull Sat 31-Jan-26 11:01:21

I loved the premise of the Home Alones, they were amongst some of the films I actually enjoyed viewing at the cinema when my children were young. Very good inter-generational family entertainment rediscovered in our house recently, 3 generations of us after a late Christmas lunch, found ourselves slumped in the living room watching Home Alone 2. It had lost none of its original appeal.

It’s on Sky at the moment.

Was on Amazon Prime

Late Winslet is the lead actress, outstanding acting from her throughout the series.
