Could I open a discussion on good films you’ve recently seen on Netflix, Prime, Disney + and mainstream tv including BBC IPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and 5 equivalents.
I spend so long scrolling through the films on the above apps, not knowing whether they were worth watching or not so I’m hoping folk on here can provide some recommendations.

Netflix…
The Devil All The Time , a film set in the mountains in North America.
Dark, a German series very quirky and well acted, about time shifts and several families within a village, I thought it was marvellous.
The Trip, a Scandi film, both gory and very funny.
Rogue Agent, a British film starring James Norton as a conman who pretends to be an MI5 officer, based on a true story.

Thoroughly second Dark. Hoping for another series. Also, 1899 on Netflix.

I Recommend You To Watch:
The Lion Who Took a Woman’s Shape
If you’re looking for dark fantasy or horror inspiration, this would be an excellent place to start. “The Lion Who Took a Woman’s Shape” focuses on a woman whose daughter has been devoured by a lion. The lion decides to take the daughter’s place, stepping into her skin to pretend to be her, and the mother has to get rid of the lion and bring her daughter back.

You obviously missed the post where the op said they were not into fantasy

Train Dreams on Netflix is marvellous.

This film was great, I agree. I can also recommend the novella by Denis Johnson that it is based on.

Puzzle on Netflix was good.

I think it was quicker to pop down to block buster thannit is to find something on a sreamer

I know you don't like scrolling but there are loads of good older films you can watch on YouTube for free.

Jojo1950 Sun 15-Mar-26 14:39:32

It was. Last day on Netflix today I think.?

Greciangirl Sun 15-Mar-26 14:46:04

Watched I Swear last night on Netflix.

Best film I’ve seen in a long time.

It’s very sad and funny all at once.
It’s about a man who has Tourette’s syndrome.

True story and unbelievable.

@pea007 I always look film reviews up on IMDB, and avoid anything less than a 5.

Mel1967

The Night Manager - I Player
Slow Horses - Apple
Patience - Channel 4 ( on the catch up app)

Disagree with Patience, which is an English language copy of the ORIGINAL French series ‘ Astrid. Murder in Paris ‘ which I much prefer. The 5th ? Series of which is on More 4 on Friday Nights a 9 pm … but best to watch from the beginning on the Ch. 4 app.

I swear, The Holdovers, A Man Called Otto, Gran Torino, F1, Conclave. All brilliant.

Lemonred Sun 15-Mar-26 15:54:06

I don’t watch movies, as most series are better these days! But I recently watched The Salt path, yes I know it’s not true, but it was an enjoyable film, and I’d listened to podcasts pointing out the fiction of it.

67notout Sun 15-Mar-26 16:48:06

Yes, The Holdovers was an unexpected excellent film, I chanced upon it and so glad I did. Holdovers are students who have to stay in school over the holidays instead of going home.

Ranworth1 Sun 15-Mar-26 16:52:07

'I Swear' is excellent (about Tourettes)

Devorgilla Sun 15-Mar-26 21:28:11

I'm watching 'That Night' on Netflix and enjoying it. It's about three sisters. I don't want to describe too much as I don't want to give plot away. Worth at least a glance of episode 1 to see it it's what you like.
