Finally finished watching it. I did enjoy it but did fall asleep sometimes ( I watch things late at night) and had to rewatch. My only problem with Jane Austen’y type stories is that I just find myself thinking ‘ just bloomin’ tell him/her’. Then again it would seriously compress both the books and the series.

I thought it was okaay, dragged rather and Mrs.B too over the top, no nuance.

I’d like a break from anything JA related, so many wonderful classics waiting to be dramatised. I’m enjoying Love for Lydia on YouTube (H.E.Bates).
Great sketch yogitree👍

Love for Lydia! How I loved that. The final episode was on when it was our works Christmas meal and we had to leave half way through to watch it ( I think other people did, too). I so wanted to look like Mel Martin and Christopher Blake was so gorgeous. Sad that he died at a relatively young age.

Grannydarkhair, I finished watching Lark Rise to Candleford the other day, it finished a bit abruptly, I didn't realise it was the end. I loved the series and binge watched it from series 1 to 4. I really miss it. I hope you enjoy it.

I really enjoyed The Other Bennet Sister, and thanks to this thread am now enjoying Lark Rise to Candleford which I completely missed when it was first shown many years ago. Lots of well kent faces, although I had to Google to check where I knew some of them from.

TBH I thought it did get a bit ridiculous later on. Mary apparently perfectly happy to be a governess - when that was a fate to be dreaded by many girls at the time. You’ve only got to read Emma to see how Jane Fairfax (and thus presumably Jane Austen) felt about it.

There are other examples in Victorian or earlier novels.

Really enjoyed these programmes and found them unexpectedly amusing. Thought the spirit of Jane Austen was caught very well.

Started watching before our holiday. Finished it when we got back. Loved it and I thought Mary was excellent.

Just finished the last two episodes of the Other Bennet Sister

Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed the series

Miss Bennet, Mr Hayward, mmm Miss Bingley - well done

I've never watched that. I enjoyed her in the Mary Bennet role 🙂.

Allira, I think the sketch looks the spitting image of Mrs. Brown.

The photo of the actress looks nothing at all like Mrs. Brown, you're right. It just goes to show what a difference a hair style, glasses, facial expressions and mannerisms make to one's appearance. Yes, she was playing a part and did it very well, I agree 🙂.

I haven't seen her in anything else.

She was a nun in Call the Midwife, Sister Frances.

Yogitree, your husband's sketch of Mary Bennet is spot on, well done to him.

She reminds me of Mrs. Brown of Mrs. Brown's Boys, poor girl 🫤.

Not kind!! Nothing like the odious Mrs Brown.

Here she is in real life. She's playing a part, and doing it very well.

Oh…. she looks lovely!

Just finished it and feel a bit bereft now.

Thank you Curlywhirly... I'll have a look. Didn't notice when I watched it but it's interesting isn't it. smile

Was the blue car in episode 6?

Yes. As you look at the screen shot of the two of them riding their horses, in the top right of the screen you can see a blue car approaching! It's a little blurred, but I'm sure it's a vehicle.

TheSunRisesInTheEast Sat 04-Apr-26 19:10:58

... and then there was an e-scooter 😂🤣.
