Did anyone catch this show last night?

It’s one of my favs anyway, (along with Mock the Week), but last night was a cracker!

PresenterRoy Wood Jr from USA
PanellistPaul Merton
PanellistIan Hislop
PanellistArmando Iannucci
PanellistAnushka Asthana

Great guests and hilarious presenter from US and the Trump section was so funny. As was the part around Churchill being “replaced” possibly with a badger, and the panellists reassuring us that no statues would be pulled down and a giant badger erected in its place.

Paul Merton and Ian Hislop were at their best and great guests.

DH and I had an enjoyable 30 minutes gawfawing most of the way through!

I like HIGNFY but I don’t enjoy it so much when Roy Wood hosts. He’s very witty and I like him but he dominates the show so that the panellists barely get a word in compared to other weeks.

My favourites hosts have been Victoria Coren Mitchell, Richard Ayoade, David Tennant and Martin Clunes.

I thought it was great. As Graphite said Roy does take over a bit but he is funny so I don’t mind.

Yes, we nearly always watch it. Yes, it was a good one! 👍

Yes, you have a point, but he was on good form last night.

It was a good episode but I thought that was down to the panel rather than the presenter.
I’ve never thought him funny in the least.Jack Dee does a better serious face while being amusing and was a good presenter on the show, but I also liked the ones mentioned by Graphite in particular Richard Ayoade who is always funny.

I love this show.
grin

Just needed to say that! grin

I love Jack Dee

I just loved it! One of my favourite programmes, I am still snorting with laughter!

merlotgran Sat 04-Apr-26 09:53:48

I thought Roy Wood was just the right presenter for this particular episode. His comic timing during any references to Trump was spot on and very funny.

And here's me thinking Roy Wood was a musician! I used to love HIGNFY but haven't watched in ages- maybe I should give it a go later?

JamesandJon33 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:04:46

I thought the Roy Wood was the one from Wizard. I was disappointed.

Cabowich Sat 04-Apr-26 12:35:33

Yes, the TV paper said Roy Wood Jr was presenting it, and I thought it must be Roy Wood's (the musician) son.

The programme was very good as it usually is. I was laughing or smiling during all of it. My favourite bit was when RW said that Trump wouldn't be voting for himself at the next election - then showed a clip of Trump saying "I'd hate to see a really stupid person as president". Hilarious.

Yes, it was a good episode.
But we always enjoy it.

Do they have a similar programme in the USA?

silverlining48 Sat 04-Apr-26 13:16:11

We watched it too, I didn’t know who the American man was, but he was amusing as were the teams.
I dint know why Paul Merton always wins, it must be part of the show, but last night I thought Ian’s team were def better.

Yes, they have a version of HIGNFY on CNN hosted by Roy Wood Jnr!

AGAA4 Sat 04-Apr-26 13:19:47

One of the funniest parts was a video of Trump saying "We don't want a stupid president".

Graphite Sat 04-Apr-26 13:21:20

Roy Wood is the regular host of HIGNFY USA. You can find it on YouTube. That’s why he sometimes hosts the UK show.

Maremia Sat 04-Apr-26 16:11:28

Yes, another Jack Dee fan.

argymargy Sat 04-Apr-26 16:43:36

Thank you Cossy! I haven't watched HIGNFY for years because it just seemed to get less & less funny. However, I love Armando Ianucci and will therefore watch this episode on catchup just for him. smile

Deedaa Sun 05-Apr-26 19:51:00

I thought it was the best episode for ages.

NotSpaghetti Mon 06-Apr-26 13:03:29

I don't think there's been an episode for ages and I do love it - but I have seen funnier ones...
Still worth watching though.

Pittcity Mon 06-Apr-26 13:39:42

I love the new title sequence.

merlotgran Sat 11-Apr-26 10:58:14

What a surprise to see Monty Don hosting last night. I don’t think he’s done it before has he?
Nice to see his sense of humour given a bit of a free rein.

Allira Sat 11-Apr-26 11:00:01

Didn't he get teased though!!

It was a very funny episode, despite all the doom, gloom and worry around at the moment.
