Well, my beloved sis and I were on our weekly meet up in Kings Heath. We decided to visit one of the pubs on the high street, which had been previously closed. We were admitted in by a very smart young man on the door. In we went, to a dark smoky pub, with all these men in smart suits and flat caps, and you guessed it, they were filming Peaky Blinders!! To say we were dumb-struck is an under statement!!. They looked at us, we looked at them, then the director approached us and said to her colleague"Well, i don't know who THESE people are"... referring to myself and my sis. So we turned tail and got out, while doubling up with laughter.
I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience or event that occurred incidentally whilst going about your business?
It really made our day, but sadly Cillian or Jamie Bell were not there, but even so, it was something to smile about.

We had a similar experience in Prague Squiffy but I've no idea what they were filming! Whatever it was must have been a period drama because they were dressed in 1930s fashion and had vehicles of that period. It looked very glamorous!

When I was an 18 year old student in Bath I wandered into the Abbey Churchyard one afternoon. There were a few women wearing long dresses but I took no notice because it was the hippie maxi dress era and I was wearing one.

Next minute, a man shouted through a megaphone, 'Would the public please get out of the way!' It was Ken Russell, the film director and they were making a film called 'Savage Messiah.' Hastily backing off, I realised the people were in Edwardian costumes, not cool/far-out hippie clothes!

Other half and I were in Truro a few years ago, dodging the rain by going from one shop doorway to another. Across the road we were away of a young female wearing a flimsy dress that was not at all enough for the wet weather. As we watched, she ran across the road and embraced a young man before engaging him in conversation. The film crew were barely noticeable, but we could hear directions, in another language, being
given all the time. Apparently Rosamund Pilcher is very popular in Germany!

I live close to Kings Heath - I must check out that pub !
Many years ago we were in Lock Lomond when we stumbled across a film set, think it was ‘Take the High Road’ .

Last November "This city is Ours" were filming in my daughter's road and a few of the surrounding roads. They even shortlisted her house to use, but decided on one over the road in the end. We spent all morning peering out of the windows watching the filming. Was intriguing to say the least.

Peaky Blinders was always being filmed very close to the school my daughter taught at. One day the crew even allowed some of the kids to come onto the set to see everything.

I've been held up more than once in Liverpool City Centre whilst various dramas were being filmed.

I worked for a pronbate and insurance valuer who was in Portsmouth for a client when he spotted Mr Bean and his red mini being filmed! Brought me back some good photos to prove it too!

Came across filming in a street near the Liver Birds Building in Liverpool
I wanted to see what was going on, saw a line of people standing so i joined them thinking they were just like me looking to see what was going on.
It wasnt til a lady with a clipboard came along the line asking everyones name as these were the extrashmm
So i took a step back.
I managed to find out it was for a tv drama called the Gathering on tv last year.
Stayed and watched from a distance.
It was a man running from a court seen outside arrested by police(actors of course)
It turned out a lot of preperation with filming props and film staff
The scene took less than 30 seconds to film!
And i watched the Gathering to see that scene and wasnt even in the drama!!
Made me realise whybit rakes so long to make a drama.

When I was repping in Turkey we had to catch the bus every Sunday for the meeting in the office. We got on the bus and everyone was in village type clothes, the driver wouldn't stop at the office and carried on elsewhere. It turned out all the other people on the bus were extras for a period film being filmed in Turkey, we never found out why they stopped to pick us up too as we were in full rep uniform.

The current series of Silent Witness was and may still be, filmed in my local park. A body was found in the woods in the park (in the drama of course) which made our walking group think twice before going through that area again!

A soap once filmed where I taught, leaving the car park after a meeting I wondered why a pupil was still around, then realised it was someone from the soap in our school uniform.

Not really but. My only
claims to fane breathing the same air as the famous are

1. Sharing a cigarette break outside of the Trafford centre with Brian Conley the comedian over 25 years.
ago. Really friendly person.

2. Being in a lift for 3 floors with Ian Brown and his wife of the Stone Roses in Kendals/ House. Of Fraser over 35 years ago.

3. Going to a NS Music Night where Johnny Marr of the Smiths and his wife were there for a night out.
Another friendly decent star

4. Actually touching if very briefly Johnny Depp in a crowd who was in disguise. Honestly. Outside. He was trying to get past me.

I was was waiting in a queue at the Apollo to see Jeff Beck. And Johnny turned up as a unannounced Special Guest.

Who wants to live in Hollywood when you can get all this in the Great Northern City?

Years ago I ran a small B&B and I was approached by a production company to ask if they could use my conservatory to do some filming. The programme was called Family Finders, a BBC daytime show. I agreed, thinking it sounded quite exciting! However when the crew arrived they were really pushy, wanting to look around the rest of the house for suitable filming spots, including bedrooms occupied by paying guests! I had to be really firm with them, as they were just wandering from room to room picking up things and rearranging them. Also, we had to be very very quiet and as we had a dog that was difficult! Ideally they wanted us to go out and leave them to it but we weren’t going to leave them with the run of the house!
It was a fun experience but I wouldn’t do it again.

When I ,as a child was in a London Park with my parents we drifted onto a film set filming an advertisement for mens shirts .
The thing that I remember was the thick tanned make up that the models wore .
Tissues protected the shirts until filmed .
Piles of discarded shirts lay on the grass .
I only saw the advertisement once .

My ex was a stand by painter for films so I have been on quite a few. Funniest was on the set of Little Shop of Horrors (singing plant) although the street of skid row looks real it is in fact wooden and I walked down it with my stilettos and made loads of tiny holes in the floor which then all needed filling as the lights reflected the holes! I helped paint the drop ship on Aliens (1986) and director James Cameron rocked up and was helping us all as there was a rush on. I had a smoochy dance with David Jason at end of film party on Porterhouse Blue.

Living on a farm in the 80's my father in law was approached by a photographer wanting to do some "glamour" filming amongst the haybales. FIL was ready to make some easy money - then all the women in the family objected and he had to cancel the arrangement

Doctors used to be filmed in my area and I used to see them around and about. Maybe they filmed my car as I went past grin

My friend lived on the same road as their studio and they used her house for filming a few times.

I grew up in the village of Corfe Castle in Dorset. Over the years many things were filmed there. When I was around 10 The Tale of Two Cities was being filmed & obe night our small street was closed & a 'drunken' man had to stagger down the road & throw a glass bottle into what was, a small grocery shop at that time. They must have done at least 10 takes of this small scene. What made it most exciting for my sister and me was that the huge spot lights they we using where in our bedroom windows & we couldn't go to bed until they'd finished!

When I was around 18 The Mayor of Casterbridge was filmed in the village. The whole of the village square was transformed. All the telephone cables had to be taken down. Every building had a new fake frontage to it & the entire village square was covered in sand & dirt. A market, complete with animals & other stalls was built. The filming took nearly a month from start to finish & lots of locals played extras. It was a BBC series & I've still got a video of it but sadly nothing to play it on now.

Another year James Burke filmed an episode of his programme in the castle ruins. It was based on the theory that all sounds over the centuries had been recorded in the stones if the castle. It seemed very plausible at the time but I don't think anything ever came of that theory 😅

Another time a helicopter hovered over the highest point of the castle ruins & lowered a man to stand in the top. That, apparently, was for an American TV advert for dog food!

I can't imagine ever growing up anywhere else that was so exciting!
