Ann Droid, anyone watched this? BBC 1

I've watched two episodes and found it quite entertaining. I love both actresses and I think the rough and ready woman who plays the charity shop worker is very amusing, a great character.

She Johnson is brilliant but she's always Sue Johnson with all her little mannerisms in most parts. She's very ' human' and relatable though.
I always think she's very stylish too. Her hair, make-up and clothes always look good.

I'm enjoying it. I'll continue watching.

I’ve just watched Ep.1 on BBC iPlayer. I found it quite poignant. Sue Johnson delivers pathos so well and the sheer bluddy frustration she has dealing with a wimpy son, a smug friend Phyllis “oh you don’t have any grandchildren do you, just your son Michael” and loneliness after the death of her husband. I like the 81y old friend who volunteers in the local charity shop.

I will watch another episode tonight.

Thanks for the recommendation. Started watching it late last night and probably would have binge watched it had I not fallen asleep. Find it laugh out loud ( I don’t usually laugh out loud but had an involuntary one during the first episode which took me by surprise) and poignant at the same time which imo is the way a good comedy should be. I still haven’t watched Amandaland but I’m going to have to watch this first.

Must have a different sense of humour I think it’s a pleasant series but doesn’t make me laugh much, it’s ok, but I m not holding my sides by a long shot

I do hope there is a second series. I want to know what happens now Michael has come across Melody. Lots of storylines there, I should imagine.
I have really enjoyed it and like Elrel have laughed and welled up as the programme shows the highs and lows of getting old.

We started watching it last night - it's easy viewing, and we quite enjoyed it. I do like Diane Morgan, she's been really good in everything I've seen her in. And I noticed a few other Motherland actors popping up too.

Well I owe this programme an apology at first I wasn’t very enamoured but as it went on I got to like it more and more and by the end I was laughing and then when she was removed from the house for scrap I was nearly crying so well done them you brought me round from dismissing it to thoroughly enjoying it

Glad you enjoyed it, BlueBelle. To me, it was one of those series which was the perfect blend of comedy and pathos. It had heart as well as the laughs.

We watched the first episode yesterday on the BBC iPlayer and enjoyed it so much that we watched the rest of the series straight after.

A second series would be great.

I finally got round to watching this last night, saw 3 episodes. I listened to a review on Times Radio, the reviewers remarked it didn't produce a lot of belly laughs. Following that I wasn't expecting it to be achingly funny. However, I thought it was both poignant and bitter/sweet. I've always enjoyed Sue Johnson as an actress ever since I first saw her as Sheila Grant, that was a long time ago. I think she bucks the trend when actresses say they don't get the parts as they age, she seems busier than ever. A great character actress. Diane Morgan also superb. I shall continue watching it, a very clever premise, I think it could well become a well loved British classic, it has that slow burn quality about it.

Not something I’d usually watch but my granddaughter nagged me to watch it. I must say I really enjoyed it.

Love Diane Morgan and I was not disappointed- I was pleased that so so much of the attitudes towards, and treatment of older people was depicted. Childless and without family I would love a Linda ! I would go out more, ask her endless questions and have fun.

Yes, she also played Lindsay, the very short-lived nanny for Julia's kids in Motherland.

Wouldn’t mind a nice robot like Linda. Would prefer a robot helper to being a resident in a care home.

Loved it! Funny, smart, poignant. All the good stuff! Some really funny moments. I would so have a robot carer! Loved the joke about Jeffrey returning his robot because they’d upgraded her IQ!! 😂😂

Having now watched 3 episodes and not enjoyed it at all, I’m obviously missing something. Shan’t bother with any more although I usually like most things with Sue Johnson in.

I wasn’t too keen at first but it definitely grew on me. So much so that I persuaded DH he’d like it and am happily watching it again with him.

Like “Small Prophets” there’s a gentle but surreal element to the humour plus a lot of genuine pathos.
Sensitive performances by the main actors and real observation of some of the issues we face as we age, bereavement, relationships with adult children, physical incapacity, even decluttering and of course friendships.
Despite the thread of pathos, it is very, very perceptive - and funny!

Loved it. Just hope they make another series. Since seeing it I walk in a jerky manner and ask John, John, John if he wants anything etc etc. Linda is a better support than the hapless Michael. It’s fun and so different. Love DianeMorgan in everything she has done. Sue Johnson. Is great as well. It’s a winner.
