Probably the best, but certainly the longest serving quiz show host, was Nicholas Parsons. He hosted Just a Minute on radio and then on TV for 52 years, until he died at age 96.

A Game Show is not a Quiz Show and to my knowledge Just a Minute is the former.

Terry Wogan on Blankety Blank. Les Dawson, Lily Savage and Bradley Walsh have also been good hosts who put their own mark on it. Bruce Forsythe was made for the Generation Game.

Yes, me too but it has been queried if Just a Minute is a game show? Not sure.

In fact, after checking, it's neither but 'a comedy panel game focusing on wit, wordplay and performance'.

What's my Line was a similar format with Eamonn Andrews.

I don’t think Magnus Magnusson ever chaired University Challenge. It was Mastermind.
The original UC question master was Bamber Gascoigne.

As I said

Two of the best quiz show hosts were on A Question of Sport, which was always a favourite in our house - both David Coleman and Sue Barker were terrific at the job. I still miss it.
