I’m still trying to digest it. It goes back and forwards and the two young characters are so similar it is difficult to decide who is who who when the they grow older. Can’t decide whether Iwill give it more than another episode. It’s based on a book which I expect is straight forward.

I’ve watched it all now and enjoyed it. Glad I stuck with it.
I'm really getting into it as the plot thickens. Well acted by all, and the scene where the baby died was very moving. 😢
It had a good review on Must Watch. If Hayley Campbell thinks it’s a Must Watch that’s good enough for me. Having half watched episode three when it was on live I watched the first one on catchup and could easily have carried on watching the whole lot. When I first heard it reviewed it went over my head because I assumed it was on Netflix or something I can’t watch. I don’t understand why they used an actor to play the young Martin who looks nothing like the older Martin but that’s a minor grumble. I have to admit to myself that I like watching series about posh people!
I've always loved any upper class dramas, starting with Upstairs Downstairs and especially Brideshead Revisited. Anthony Andrews as Sebastian with his teddy bear, wonderful performance. Then we had Downton Abbey. They were the three that stand out for me although there were many more.
Well I’ve just binge watched the last few episodes. It really wrong footed me at the end. I found it as gripping as Time but in more of a self indulgent way. Interesting that the producer has produced crime series and also worked on Casualty because the hospital stuff was quite authentic. SPOILER ALERT. I’m not sure if there are many series in which I’ve started off loathing a character but then grew to love them. There was something Stephen Poliakoff’ish about it but maybe that was because of Lindsey Duncan. Thanks for the recommendation anyway. I think it would have passed me by.
Who was the character you loathed at first but then grew to love MayBee70?
Don't read any more unless you've seen it all:
I thought the last episode was disappointing (as is often the case). Ben's recovery was quite weird, one minute almost fatal, then with serious consequences and then he seemed to make a miraculous recovery, full mental faculties and all. The ending was also strange and unsatisfying. Both their marriages were finished so why couldn't Martin and Ben live together?

My take was that Martin felt he needed to move on and get away from Ben and his family

Yes, I agree about Ben’s ‘injury’! I mean, that was a miraculous recovery. Having said that I really didn’t know what was going to happen right till the very end. The going backwards and forwards wasn’t a problem because, for some reason seeing a later episode first by accident made it clearer. To me, it was a lighter version of Half Man with much posher people ( I really didn’t like Half Man and only finished it because I felt I had to). I thought Martin was a nasty piece of work at the start, but perhaps he had a lot of inner turmoil coming to terms with his sexuality? But I related in a way because I was a working class ( lower working class or, as I once described my family unemployable class) person who suddenly found themselves mixing with upper class people so I was partly estranged from my family but didn’t also didn’t fit in with my new friends. But Martin was able to move on towards a happiness that Ben would never be able to do because of the constraints of his upper class’ness. Listening to the Must Watch review, only Hayley gave it a Must Watch, the others didn’t like it which I thought was unfair.
Ive got one episode to go and enjoying it even though they are such objectionable characters, possibly the attraction! The main character redeemed himself and his wife is sympathetic but the rest of them are rich, entitled tories.
But when Ben shot himself you realised the inner turmoil he had also been going through about his sexuality, coupled with his allegiance to his mother which was clearly a huge burden to carry. He was completely unable to tell her the truth about the crash, knowing it would destroy her. I blame Ben's father for orchestrating that from the start, forcing Martin to take the blame. Ben was under his control as well as under his mother's spell. I felt Ben was awful until just before he shot himself and then his character opened up in that scene and I had sympathy for him.
I never disliked Ben the way I disliked Martin. There was no follow up as to what happened to Lucy at that university party when that other politician bloke followed her into that room. Or was I just supposed to fill in the gaps? The actress who played Lucy was also the director Ibelieve.Unlike Ben and his wife Martin and Lucy did actually like each other.
