Anyone feel the same - the wonderful Lesley Manville, the Punt character, superb plot, classy sets, and a happy ending to boot (I wont say anymore as it might be a spoiler)

But do give it a try if you like classy/almost traditional/ but with a twist crime drama.

Another Marble Hall Murders thread been running for a while.

OK.

I've never heard of it, but I love Leslie Manville, so I shall investigate. I thanks. Every time I see her in anything I remember when she was a teenager in Emmerdale, not that I've watched it for decades, only when visiting my mother who used to watch it. For some reason I remember that she was given, I think it was a calf, and she named it, but at the time she didn't realise that eventually it would be slaughtered, which she was very upset about.

Just looked it up and it's on BBC. I don't watch anything that's on the BBC because I stopped playing my licence fee months ago and I should have done it years before. There's loads of other channels that are worth watching and I've got Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Love it so much - brilliant series but so short !
More please

Peaseblossom. Presumably you don’t listen to any BBC radio stations either?

I'm really enjoying it - I love gentle crime dramas and my biggest guilty secret is Madame Blanc - all slightly over-acted, but gives me the feel-good factor.
I'm a huge BBC fan by the way, and think the licence fee is value for money.

Oh yes Madame Blanc is awful but I like it! (Having a Dick Emery moment!)

Me too. Radio is just fab. (for me, thats R3, R3 unwind, and 4) Worth every penny.
Part of our the fabric of our UK lives. I player is tops for news, probably the most accessible easy to use websites there is. If you don't like it, suggest changes, but why get rid of it?

WelshPoppy Sat 17-Oct-26 16:19:25

Peaseblossom, so you don't watch ANY live TV on any channel then, as the TV licence isn't only relevant to the BBC.

I love it too! So much, that after watching the Marble Hall Murders, we went back and started the first series - Magpie Murders. Cosy and undemanding.

Thank you for the recommendation.
I like Lesley Manville .
It's a long time since I saw her in anything.

Loved it, loved her clothes in all the other series...maybe not always the ankle boots, but....can you have a style icon at my age..(71)...??

I absolutely loved all three of these - Magpie Murders, Moonflower Murders and Marble Hall murders. The main characters of Susan Ryeland (Lesley Manville) and Atticus Pund (Tim McMullan) were fantastic, so well acted. I would quite like a list of all the outfits Susan Ryeland wore and where to buy them. I particularly liked that she was an older lady who looked amazing and was feisty and smart (probably a bit like Lesley Manville herself?). It was the best of murder/mystery type drama, but with some quirky twists and bang up to date. Lovely.

All three series are excellent.Lesley Manville is brilliant,I love Atticus Pund’s voice.

If you search the website "shop your TV" for Marble Hall Murders you will see information about many of the clothes

Do you all know that Atticus Pünd is an anagram for something rather rude.

Lesley Manville is 70.

So we Can all Aspire. OTOH, I'm 75, so I shall aspire to something more realistic 😉 and attempt to go to the gym more often...

We do see her beautifully made up by professionals however!

The books are really worth reading, starting with Magpie Murders. Anthony Horowitz also wrote the Foyle's War series. I loved the way that the "Murders" books were made into TV series , especially with Lesley Manville.

Esmay Sun 18-Oct-26 09:02:54

I'm so annoyed -feeling relaxed I dozed off!

eazybee Sun 18-Oct-26 09:15:37

I have been reading the book at the same time, as enjoyable as the series, but cannot understand the need to change the setting of the novel from France to Corfu, the appearance of some of the characters, and the ethnicity of the Detective Inspector and his police sergeant.

I have not seen Madame Blanc but feel the same about The Good Ship Murder. It is really cheesy but I do enjoy it.

Aveline Sun 18-Oct-26 10:52:29

Give Madame Blanc a go Bukkie. You won't regret it.
