Not sure if I'm i the right forum but I wanted to ask has anyone tried this new(ish) social media platform? Its an alternative to X. Any tips for using.

Thanks dotpocka,
Very informative, brief, that is what I like to read.

Bluesky now has 21 million users and is growing fast. X is probably 500 million by now, down from about 800 million but who knows the truth of the X stats, apart from Elon and he isnt telling. I joined Bluesky about a week ago and deleted my X/Twitter account. There is less traffic on Bluesky, but so far its far more civilised. I can still follow Mary Beard and Sophie from Romania (Rory Cellan Jones dog) and other nice restful forums like Nature is Amazing and the Worlds best pics. The more political forums seem to be remarkably free of the sort of posts that make my blood pressure rise. I think its really worth supporting. The more it grows the better it will become.

Another good one is CounterSocial counter.social/index.html

•*Bluesky is the best!*
• Substack is excellent for journalism content, if you’re into news, current events. I follow various English Substack writers too.
• Threads is okay, I’ve heard, but I’m not on it - used heavily by professional media.
• Facebook is full of ads and trolls - it has really lost its luster and reputation and they are doing NOTHING to fix it.
• Stay off of X, WhatsApp - becoming cesspools and the algorithms are very murky and conversations are being followed. All you need to do is hit one wrong link, and… (especially WhatsApp. Switch to Signal if you’re ONLY interested in sharing conversations. Signal has encryption for safety purposes.)
• There are countless other social media sites. Ones that promote right wing propaganda and those that promote left liberal progressive agendas. There are trolls on all sites but the really good sites do enforce their rules of clean, not violent, nasty, scary content. Stay informed, do your homework before signing on!
•*Bluesky is probably the safest to be on right now* - find your community on there and you can enjoy it once again.

Not if you are a woman who believes in single sex spaces it's not. Really unpleasant threatening content.

I do like Bluesky but I don't follow just anyone and happily block those with different ideas on gender. No nasty responses so far. It's all a bit jolly but I'm happy following various animal.and art threads.
