Heck of a long way to go for an interview.

Last Wednesday Mr P and I (well, Mr P really) drove 4.5 hours there, and 5.5 hours back for an interview for a job I had applied for.

The interview was supposed to last for 1 hour, but actually went on for about an hour and a half.

The interview was held by a very nice person from HR (she looked about 16, but I suppose that's down to my age) and a woman who is the area sales manager. The interview went ok, I had to take loads of documentation for a CRB check, and cocked it up a bit when I meant to hand over my photocard driving licence, but instead gave her my bank card blush

Today I received a call from the HR lady. She said "Hello phoenix, this is D from F. As you remember we said that we would be getting in touch on Monday or Tuesday to give some feedback after the interviews. (I didn't remember that at all, but played along, as you do)

I thought it was going to be the old "well, we thought you did very well but...." then to my astonishment, I heard her say "we would like to offer you the position"

Well, you could have knocked me down with a soggy copy of the Racing Post!

It gets a bit scary from here though, there is a company car (I have only driven automatics for the last 10 years) and I have to go to Manchester for training, (no problem, except I think I will collect the car from there, so double scary, GEARS and not forgetting MOTORWAY DRIVING Aaargh!

I'm fluctuating between being pretty excited and needing to change my knickers through the scariness of it all!

It will be 12 months to the day on Thursday since my last day at Mystery Shoppers, I had no idea then that it would take me so long to find another job (I will not count those bloody awful 3 weeks at the caravan park)

Thank you to all those who have sent good wishes/prayers whatever to me on my job search, if I could be a bit cheeky can I ask for some more good wishes etc to help with the driving thing! (And that I might do well in the job, it involves hitting targets, never had to do that before, just had to go out and try to get the business!)

Congratulations - everything comes to he who waits, as my Dad used to say.

I am sure that you will rise to the occasion and get into the swing of it before you know where you are.

WELL DONE! I knew somebody would have to recognise your talents eventually. You will soon get used to driving with gears again - I had driven an automatic for ten years but had to switch to get my little 4 x 4. And on the motorway, just tuck in to the near lane unless you really need to overtake, until you get used to it.
I am sending you tons and kilograms of good wishes from New Zealand. xxxxx

phoenix whoo! Fantastic news. Hey, don't get hung up on the car, mine is auto but I have no problem when renting manual - quite rejeuvenating! Just like the proverbial bike. Go girl!

Ana Tue 19-Mar-13 19:30:39

Congratulations, phoenix - so pleased for you! Don't worry about the car, you'll soon get used to gears again - I thought I'd never adapt to power steering but I was so wrong! You deserve this job so much. smile

Lilygran Tue 19-Mar-13 19:31:29

Oh heavens blush thank you all so much for the good wishes!

And I would like to say a very special "thank you" to a particular member, you know who you are!

Apart from the manual car/motorway thing, I have another concern, I have put on 1.5 stone since losing my job, can't fit into any of my suits shock had to go to the interview in a newly bought (larger size) pair of trousers and a tunic top (with a rather fetching scarf, to draw attention away from the worst bits.

I think a quick trip to the (charity) shops might be in order to at least make sure I have something to wear for the induction thingy!

The nice HR person will be calling me on Thursday to cover what happens next, but for now I feel a(nother) large glass of wine coming on!

Galen Tue 19-Mar-13 19:58:46

What size are you? Can I help with lending anything. I've loads of suits

Oh heck, I think I'm on the way to getting a tad squiffy! Mr P keeps "refreshing" my glass!

Basically, the company is Findel Education, the job is field sales/account management for Devon & Cornwall.

Must nip off, Mr P has shouted that supper is ready!
