Heck of a long way to go for an interview.

Last Wednesday Mr P and I (well, Mr P really) drove 4.5 hours there, and 5.5 hours back for an interview for a job I had applied for.

The interview was supposed to last for 1 hour, but actually went on for about an hour and a half.

The interview was held by a very nice person from HR (she looked about 16, but I suppose that's down to my age) and a woman who is the area sales manager. The interview went ok, I had to take loads of documentation for a CRB check, and cocked it up a bit when I meant to hand over my photocard driving licence, but instead gave her my bank card blush

Today I received a call from the HR lady. She said "Hello phoenix, this is D from F. As you remember we said that we would be getting in touch on Monday or Tuesday to give some feedback after the interviews. (I didn't remember that at all, but played along, as you do)

I thought it was going to be the old "well, we thought you did very well but...." then to my astonishment, I heard her say "we would like to offer you the position"

Well, you could have knocked me down with a soggy copy of the Racing Post!

It gets a bit scary from here though, there is a company car (I have only driven automatics for the last 10 years) and I have to go to Manchester for training, (no problem, except I think I will collect the car from there, so double scary, GEARS and not forgetting MOTORWAY DRIVING Aaargh!

I'm fluctuating between being pretty excited and needing to change my knickers through the scariness of it all!

It will be 12 months to the day on Thursday since my last day at Mystery Shoppers, I had no idea then that it would take me so long to find another job (I will not count those bloody awful 3 weeks at the caravan park)

Thank you to all those who have sent good wishes/prayers whatever to me on my job search, if I could be a bit cheeky can I ask for some more good wishes etc to help with the driving thing! (And that I might do well in the job, it involves hitting targets, never had to do that before, just had to go out and try to get the business!)

Congratulations phoenix on your very well deserved and long overdue success. I hope you will enjoy the new job, and I hope they will realise how lucky they are to have you. I think we are in similar situations, I recently started a new job and have a big mortgage - such a relief to be in employment again!

Enjoy!!! flowers wine

Mega congratulations phoenix - you must be so chuffed! As regards the wardrobe problem I would make use of the jackets which you say do still fit and just buy 2 pairs of smartish black trousers to go with them. If you have to do a lot of driving, trousers will be more comfortable than a skirt anyway and you can even go for (whisper it sh! sh! elasticated waists) whilst your sylph-like form reasserts itself! grin

As everyone says, the driving does get easier as you become more used to it. Before you know it you will be a seasoned practioner!

Good luck - hope the job turns out to be a good one. flowers wine

Great news Phoenix! What a boost for your confidence. if you can cope with an interview and do so well, you can cope with the driving no bother! Jadey's idea about a few driving lessons seems to me to be very sensible as it'll make you feel happier about setting off and bring you up to date with how things are on the motorways since you last drove on them regularly. Good luck and have fun! flowers sunshine

Jadey Tue 19-Mar-13 21:44:08

Oh phoenix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BRILLIANT sooo happy for you sweet smile

You know you will soon get used to driving manual, could you take just a couple of driving lessons before you start the job just to get the old confidence working, motorways, I understand the motorway thing, because I am scared of them myself but I should imagine that the more you drive on them the more you will get used to it and in a couple of weeks will be thinking why you were worried.

Congratulations to you and very well done xx xx

Even more blush ! Many, many thanks to you all, both for the support in my job hunting and now for your good wishes!

Galen I'm 5'2 , should be a 10 to 12, but just lately my nether regions are getting around the 14 mark blush although it depends on brand/cut.

I have oodles of jackets that fit as even though I have gained weight my lack of_ bosoms have stayed the same.
