Had a job offer!

Initially just a 3 month trial, but we are sooooo chuffed! grin grin grin

Nelliemoser Sat 11-Jan-14 20:11:41

phoenix Once upon a time I think job centers could help with a grant or whatever to get people to be able to start work, to travel or get suitable equipment. Have look at that. I have known local charities that have might help with such things. a CAB may know some.

Thanks Nellie will phone the Jobcentre on Monday.

glass still not entirely sure myself, waiting for her to ring tomorrow, wonder which excuse she will go with, after all if the slow puncture means it's not fit for use, then how is she going to drive it to work on Monday?????

Galen , if that's a spell from Harry Potter, it hasn't worked. (Not that I know what is supposed to do! grin

Good News Phoenix! My DP started job for three months in September and he is still there and has just been made full time so fingers crossedsmile

Charleygirl Sun 12-Jan-14 15:30:57

I will also keep my fingers crossed that the Job Centre and companies will come up trumps with money. As you said, it is in your interest to start work again, pay taxes and all that jazz.

Also we must hope that Mr. P's job starts soon so that the money is flowing again. I have decided that I do not understand the benefit system here at all. The undeserving seem to get bucket loads but those who try to get a job are kicked in the teeth. Rant over.

Maggiemaybe Sun 12-Jan-14 16:23:42

Good news, phoenix, and I hope it all goes well for you both. One of my family was offered a temporary agency job 3 years ago after a few months job-seeking. He's still there and loves it. Fingers crossed for Mr P. smile

Maggiemaybe Sun 12-Jan-14 16:25:22

And not to forget - fingers crossed for you too for your interviews. smile

Anne58 Sun 12-Jan-14 17:03:06

Heaven knows how you lot are going to get anything done with all those crossed fingers! Your support and good wishes do mean a lot to me.

The benefits system does seem odd, doesn't it Charleygirl? Even the advisers at the JC appear to be baffled by it.

Re B & J, it's a funny old thing, I have known them for over 15 years, in fact B was my boss at one time. He is a genuinely nice chap, and J's heart is in the right place really, she just seems to speak without thinking at times, and then ties herself up in knots with the lies/half truths etc.

Not sure if I have already said what the two interviews are for, but in case I haven't, 1 is at a local specialist holiday place in Halwill, they do angling holidays. There is no indication of salary, but the job description was "Head of Housekeeping/Office Assistant, either trainee or more qualified" so I'm pretty sure that they will be offering minimum wage. The other is in Okehampton, for an Administrator (job duties actually sound quite interesting and varied) and showed the salary as £13 -£15 k, which is less than I have earned previously, but so what! smile

For both jobs I sent my toned down CV, emphasising admin rather than sales. But I have a cunning plan! For both interviews I am taking along my "proper" CV, so if it seems appropriate, I can show them that and perhaps imply that I would be an asset to the business in other ways, which might A) Improve my chances of being offered the job, and if that does happen then B) I might be able to squeeze a bit more money. The chap at the Okehampton job seemed very nice on the phone, and was telling me about the company set up, he does have someone doing sales, (only 1 man), and part of the role is to support him. I didn't mention my sales background during the phone call, thought I would wait until the actual interview and pick my moment!

Good idea or not?

Nonu Sun 12-Jan-14 17:06:52

Sound idea , but do go with the "flow"

We'd better get working on the local meetup, Phoenix! It wouldn't be right without you!

Agus Sun 12-Jan-14 17:16:05

Go by your instincts during the interview Phoenix before mentioning your sales background. Alternatively, wait until you get the job and then bring it into a possible sales related conversation maybe.

Very best of luck with your interviews.

Re. B&J! You may remember my thoughts on that pair!

Agus Sun 12-Jan-14 17:23:34

DD2 secured a new job 5 months ago without mentioning all her qualifications, thus enabling her to get a foot in the door. Not only was she kept on after the three month trial, she proved her worth and last week was offered promotion for a more qualified position and a very decent pay rise. I'm boasting a wee bit here but I was so chuffed for her.

Maniac Sun 12-Jan-14 18:41:34

phoenix I'm so pleased about Mr P's new job -and good wishes for your interview,
Keep up your writing !You have definite talent in that area.

Anne58 Sun 12-Jan-14 18:59:55

Not boasting at all Agus just showing fully justified pride in her achievements!

Thanks Maniac I'm trying to, but I'm currently doing an on-line course (don't laugh, Level 2 in Business & Administration) and my next Unit is due in by 22nd, so I'm supposed to be concentrating any writing efforts on that.

Charleygirl Sun 12-Jan-14 20:39:23

You just need a foot in the door and hopefully everything will fall into place. I agree, just go with the flow at the interview- you can do no more. You will be more relaxed knowing that Mr. P is about to start a new job so the weight of the world will not be on your shoulders. One positive thing is that you are able to start work almost immediately.

When you finish that on line course, that may lead to promotion and more dosh.

You can spend tomorrow sorting out clothes for the interviews and titivating yourself so that you are ready and relaxed.

Anne58 Sun 12-Jan-14 22:08:11

I've made a start, slapped a colour on my hair and tackled the eyebrows grin

Sewsilver Sun 12-Jan-14 22:34:18

Such good news and well deserved Mr P. now your turn Phoenix

Eloethan Mon 13-Jan-14 00:16:28

Great news phoenix - so pleased for you both.

Charleygirl Mon 13-Jan-14 09:15:55

There is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. All the best for your first interview which I think is tomorrow.

Anne58 Mon 13-Jan-14 12:04:47

They are both tomorrow Charleygirl one at 11.30, the other at 3pm, but I will try to move that one up a bit if poss, would make sense travel wise. Both in the same direction, first one 7.5 miles from home, second 20 miles, so would be good to go on to second rather than come home and go out again.

Have had a good phone conversation with the second one, seems like a very nice chap, laid back etc. Told me to come in jeans & trainers as not really a smart environment (!) and the outside parking bit can get pretty muddy!

Mishap Mon 13-Jan-14 12:19:02

Good luck!

Ana Mon 13-Jan-14 12:24:29

Blimey, phoenix, you'll have to get changed in the car! confused

The very best of luck with both interviews - you may get offered both jobs and be spoilt for choice! grin

annodomini Mon 13-Jan-14 12:58:07

Best of luck, phoenix. flowers
