Just sat here in cafe window minding my own business when along comes a teen making that awful masterbation gesture at me!!! Some school boys behind him found it so funny they all copied him!!! 49 percent of me want to do it back to them just for the shock value ;-) but the 51 percent dignified side of me pretended to ignore it!! Life eh! What would you do?

Perhaps we should all do a collective Baroness Trumpington gesture, with the look of contempt that goes with it.

I completely agree with what you did, it was very good and you didn’t give them the attention they wanted. Give yourself a pat on the back!!

Bikergran...love that storywink

Namsnanny Sun 10-Mar-19 15:03:37

Rude gestures seem to be the norm nowadays! Don’t want to sound like an old moaner, but I remember 12 y old boys at school flashing the v sign at each other but not at the girls or bystanders on the street, whatever their age! More than likely they would have been challenged for their bad behaviour....which is not advisable now is it?

Namsnanny Sun 10-Mar-19 14:58:40

Stella1949...lol!! That made me snort so loudly the cat jumped in fright grin

anxiousgran Sun 10-Mar-19 13:16:56

Yes, flashers are a step up. I will log it with the police but I don’t know what they’ll think of me, it’s a couple of weeks ago now.

bluenun Sun 10-Mar-19 12:41:27

In the kids making rude gestures instance I would have ignored them or raised a quizzical eyebrow. I would report the flasher though because I wouldn't want anyone else to be confronted or worse...that the flasher goes on to do something very nasty to another person.

I agree with OPs not to react, that”s what they want from you. A man recently ‘exposed’himself to me in a fairly secluded place. I didn’t react, although I did wait for some teenage girls who were slightly behind me. He let them go past. Is it because we are a couple of generations older they think we’ll be shocked?
I didn’t tell the police about the ‘exposer’. Perhaps I should have done. It didn’t seem worth it at the time.

M0nica Sun 10-Mar-19 10:48:28

I thought the response was always meant to be: 'I have seen better lit up on the Christmas tree.' Not sure why.

annodomini Sat 09-Mar-19 09:00:47

NO! What they want is a reaction. Any reaction. Don't give them the satisfaction. End of.

harrigran Sat 09-Mar-19 08:55:59

I would ignore them, they could approach you and then you would feel threatened.
In our town a teenage girl was vandalising a building, when told to stop she pushed her face right into the face of the person talking and said "make me". I have seen the video, she was so venomous it made my blood run cold.

GrandmainOz Sat 09-Mar-19 05:28:51

missadventure?

annep1 Sat 09-Mar-19 05:21:42

I would be tempted to reply but know I shouldn't. But honestly, how times have changed! Disgusting!

stella1949 Sat 09-Mar-19 04:36:00

I agree with phoenix - indicate that you think their penis is terribly tiny !

Reminds me of my sister who went out with a boy back in her teens - he suddenly whipped out his penis like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. She had the presence of mind to say " Gee I'd need a microscope to see that ! "

phoenix Fri 08-Mar-19 23:14:03

Perhaps repeat the gesture back to them, but just using the thumb and forefinger, indicating that they have a very small, teeny weeny penis! (To match the size of their brain)
