AIBU to think that Gransnet could update this article, and not just keep republishing the same information it has already published this year several times before? I loved this article when it first came out, but come on Gransnet, it’s time to write something different!

Viola Davis was a maid in the film The Help.

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Dec-20 15:25:52

Davis was the star in The Help and had an Oscar nomination for her role.
She is 55.

Viola Davis is to play Michelle Obama in a new series

That’s interesting, MOnica, about scarves - I’m the opposite - I wear a scarf almost all the time! I have two baskets full!

What about these pics?

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Dec-20 04:09:35

I'm another scarf fan! I've got oodles.
I've even got one that I wear in bed!

absent Tue 15-Dec-20 06:49:41

I'm 70 – I don't care.

Jules48 Tue 15-Dec-20 07:46:26

A scarf in bed?! grin

M0nica Tue 15-Dec-20 08:27:56

Jules48, Quite like the first one, No 2 wears is wearing a scarf and No 3 a quite unnecessary gilet.

My problem is that I have narrow shoulders, so any item of clothing that is loose and depends on the shoulders to stay in place is a no-no as I am for ever pulling it up back on my shoulders because it keeps slipping off. With coats, jackets, knitwear of any kind, if there isn't a button to do up, it doesn't get bought.

I really like all 3 of those Jules, I just wish I had the slim legs the model does. Makes skinny trousers/jeggings look so much better.
I had slim legs when I was young but I think flesh from my midriff and bottom has slid down and is resting on them now?

Me too Puzzler ?
However, a sturdy pair of pins is better in older age ( I tell myself.)

lemongrove Fri 18-Dec-20 15:01:24

FannyC you are way way too young to be on here.?

Puzzler61 Fri 18-Dec-20 15:06:26

Hopefully they’ll act as our stabilisers lemongrove ??‍♀️

Should I take my scarf (bed) and clear off?

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Dec-20 16:01:47

Seriously though, in sure that there are posters on here who are younger than me (perish the thought!)
I've seen a couple mention having daughters in their early 20s. They don't seem to be regular posters mind you.

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Dec-20 16:02:11

I'm sure, rather.

petra Fri 18-Dec-20 16:16:46

Jules48
That's exactly my style. Although I wouldn't wear a scarf that big. I don't think I've ever owned a gilet.
The navy and white is my go to every time with a big bold navy and white necklace.

annodomini Fri 18-Dec-20 16:25:42

I've been over 50 for 30 years! The quiz says I'm 'classic' and don't think I have answered that description in all those years. My style is best described as 'haphazard', but my style guru, 28-year-old GD has never complained, so I'll accept her judgement.

Jaxjacky Fri 18-Dec-20 17:30:10

Good grief, what a topic, I did the quiz, but none of it really applied to me. There was no option saying black jeans/light blue jeans/dark blue jeans, ditto shorts in the summer! I’ve done corporate, suits, smart office, done ‘smart casual’, I own light cotton, long dresses for summers when we lived in SE France and the weather/lifestyle was very different, I’ve worn two once when it was very hot in the summer. I admire all of you your style people, but it’s not for me or my very happy life now.

I've still got a couple of teens.

The first photo is very me, stylewise not figure wise

NotTooOld Fri 18-Dec-20 22:52:23

I love all those pics but agree that scarves are a pain. They look great on other people but I can't stand them fluttering about my person. I'm 76 and a size 14 and I wear what I like but it must be comfortable. Really can't stand tight clothes any more, so thank goodness for jeggings and 'slip-on' trousers. With a selection of tops and a few pairs of boots, I'm ready for anything. Only other items in the winter wardrobe are a couple of loose dresses to be worn with leggings. Anything vaguely hippyish is for me. I'm off to do the quiz now.

NotTooOld Fri 18-Dec-20 23:00:38

I've come back to say that the quiz is rubbish. I didn't like any of the choices except for 'natural make-up'. I finally came out as a 'classic' who loves little black dresses and smart jackets, which I definitely don't! Doesn't make any sense.

M0nica Sat 19-Dec-20 18:06:50

I.ve just noticed this one Absent I'm 70 – I don't care

Well I am 77 and I do care how I look and always will.

Lisagran Sat 19-Dec-20 18:51:52

NotTooOld - I think we all agree the quiz is rubbish and that the article needs updating to reflect what present day grans are wearing. Because we were 60s girls (many of us), the “hippyish” style you mention is still the way many of us dress (not flares and tie dye t shirts grin )
