Delicatessen and cafe staff who can't make a wrap

Aagh! Once again I have come home with a wrap from a deli to discover it has been folded into a square instead of rolled and wrapped the way it should be. As a result half the filling falls out everytime I take a bite.
Surely if you work in a place that sells wraps you should learn how to make them properly? It's not difficult.

I make them with three folds and an open top. It works pretty well held together with a couple of cocktail sticks (which I re-use ad infinitum) until I pick it up to eat. Don't have spillage problems.

While Minibaggs was home over xmas hols if I made them for her and she wasn't ready to eat them I wrapped them in cling film. She didn't have a spillage problem either.

I just looked at the video showing how to roll them after three folds similar to mine. Might have a go but it would mean biting through several more thicknesses of tortilla so I'm not convinced it's better than my method.

This didn't even come with cocktail sticks.
You are supposed to fold in each side, then roll it, then cut it in half.

confusedconfused
I can't say this has ever exercised me!confused
I do buy them occasionally but my inner thrift goddess rebels at paying silly money when long ago in my days as a young mum I would have never thought twice about making wraps or sandwiches myself.
It's like paying the price of a jar of coffee for a single latte!

Perhaps you could find another deli? I rarely eat them but if I do, I make a great mess of them.?

What is even worse, when handing you a hot drink, they don’t use the cup handle, just place their paws around the top to give you it. Have refused to drink it if they do this. Poor training in both instances.

A wrap is a version of the Mexican burrito (just with alternative fillings. The way to roll a burrito is to put the filling on one side, fold both ends in, and then roll the filled end over and over the empty end (a bit like rolling a swiss roll). That way it is sealed until you want to eat it.

If you're making a hot wrap, the heat will partially mould the tortilla/wrap shell into place.

I like lots of shredded lettuce in mine which is why I do it the way I do. I might try the roly method though. When I started making them for my lunches I hadn't a clue and just did what seemed to hold the contents (Practical is my middle name). It never occurred to me to research the issue ?

1st World problems in a BIG way, who cares, there are many people who would be happy with what is 'falling' out of your wrap.sad

Sorry, but this thread made me smile.

Disgusted, from Tonbridge (or was it Tunbridge).

You are very lucky to have a deli they don’t exist where we are they must think we are not sophisticated enough for one.

Do you know I was going to put 'yes I know this is a first world problem' at the end of my post but couldn't be bothered.

However I knew someone would post this. Obviously they only read threads about climate change and the global economy and suchlike on Gransnet grin

Also I can never understand why people don't simply ignore threads that they consider trivial and not worthy of their attention, rather than posting rude and supercilious comments.
There are plenty of serious threads about important things where you can air your opinions. Some of us, sometimes, want to rant or chat about ordinary everyday things that annoy us, without receiving I'll mannered put downs.

Ill mannered put downs, that should have read.

Hear, hear!

Hear hear from me too.

There’s always someone who responds to a light-hearted post with a condescending put down, wrapping the post in the proverbial wet blanket.

So are you saying that only people who agree with an OP are entitled to have or express an opinion?

CanadianGran Mon 17-Jan-22 18:23:35

It could be that your deli is choosing to do all wraps that way.
Just ask the manager. Some restaurants feel the need to mess with what works just for the sake of being different.
Serving on planks of wood come to mind, instead of plates.

Kali2 Mon 17-Jan-22 18:29:32

In jest surely. No harm done.

rafichagran Mon 17-Jan-22 18:30:06

Totally agree with you.

Pammie1 Mon 17-Jan-22 18:30:12

I get the thinner tortillas and place one over the other until it resembles a figure 8. Place the filling in a line just short of the middle, roll once and then fold in the ends. Roll up tightly and wrap in clingfilm for about an hour - makes it easier to eat.

rafichagran Mon 17-Jan-22 18:31:16

Sorry, the above is too Calandergirl

I’ve experienced this and been left with horrible perfume residue on the cup from whoever has handed it to me. It gets handed back pronto.

I think I need a diagram, or several, to understand how this works, Pammie. By "resemble a figure 8' do you mean the tortillas overlap a bit?

Then I couldn't work out what the line just short of the middle meant. Sorry!
