What is the point of fishing?

It has always puzzled me that fishermen (or women) enjoy sitting for hours watching a float in order to maim fish then throw them back. Also you will never convince me that they are cold blooded so feel no pain. Perhaps you grandads can enlighten me. By the way, if you use ground bait, see my comment in the 'thrifty tips' thread.

Rather rude to post in a foreign language and then not share the translation with everyone, though...hmm

Just noticed that there's a film showing at my cinema called 'Kiss the Water' about a lady in the Scottish Highlands that makes flies and some people think she should be recognised as an artist. I do find fishing flies quite beautiful.

I've only been away one week ,one simple week and I really haven't a clue. And I've logged on when permitted. I repeat I haven't a clue. It's rather close to the Syrian peace talks. Obscure meandering and verging on bloodshed. Could some kind person pm me . Or I'll cry. I've just seen Carlos Acosta and the beautiful Russian in Giselle and that made me very sobby. I'm teetering on the brink.

There is no point in fishing. When I was younger, I used to go with my dad and 3 uncles. The trip to Bidford or Evesham was great, a day by a river away from the soot and grime of Brum. But I was let into a secret by my seniors. Fish don't bite, between Mid day and 2pm, because the sun is too high. So after 'the break' and a couple of sandwiches, the trick was to surreptitiously keep one eye on the float, with cap tipped over eyes. This was best done, lying on the river bank, with a kreel basket propped under the head, to support the neck, whilst watching said float. Liars!

I have never done fishing, but I do eat fish, so ok. The only fishing I have done was out the back of a sailboat crossing the channel, and the mackerel caught tasted very nice indeed. I don't eat meat, but would encourage anyone who does to spend some time in an abattoir (it was the horses head lying nonchalantly in the corner that put me off).

And the fish are really clever. And psychic as if I buy a lemon when DH goes fishing they know to stay at the bottom[fishguttinghatredemoticon]
