Hot weather, floaty dresses, but what about your knickers?

Evening, spent today in my attic office, stifling, stuffy, hot hot hot!

I was wearing a loose cotton shirt, which I find cooler than T shirts, and fairly loose trousers.

To be strictly honest, they weren't as loose as they were last summer sad but I did actually manage to get them on without too many undignified contortions, and with only low level swearing, which must count for something.smile

Anyway, reading a post by another member about floaty dresses being a better option than cropped trousers, made me think..........

And having had a think, I now have a question. Apart from the obvious extra hassle of having to shave one's legs (yes, I know it's not compulsory, but there are limits) I was wondering about the (ahem) "thigh" issue blush

I am of course asking for a friend, who is slightly concerned about sweating and possible chafing in that area.

She did also express some concerns about whether the thighs might make some sort of noise, perhaps "squeaking" or some such, as they came into contact.

She did briefly (ha ha, pun!) wonder if there was some sort of modern equivalent of bloomers, or directoire knickers, so I thought I would ask you lot for you advice on undergarments for dresses/skirts in hot weather.

NannaandGrampy, what a brilliant idea to use deodorant, I'm going to try this.

Mary my Mum found the same problem with Joe Brown - beautiful dresses spoiled by the linings. So many dresses with sleeves at the moment are the body con style which are too dressy and close fitting. She's always on the hunt for the ideal summer dress.

Thank you to Rizlett for your under boob advice, unfortunately I can not wear perfume or deodorant because I am asthmatic and they make it uncomfortable for me to breath, the calendula cream sounds like it might work though, if it's mild which I'm assuming it will be if it's for babies, thank you TLVgran48

Mary, having trawled through thousands of dresses on line, I ended up going very down market, at Asda. The 2 dresses I bought have been perfect, non-iron, floaty with no waist, not see-through and don't crease when I am damp.

Having an idle moment I scanned this thread - and immediately all these adds popped up for knickers! How do they know? (No suggestions re charging as I wear crop trousers. I thought of buying a floaty dress but didn't want to jinx the weather.)

Charging? Chaffing!

Thanks very much I will look in Asda it's a real shame about the Joe Brown also the body con style not at all suitable for very hot weather

Reading this at home wearing a floaty Indian skirt and NO knickers - so cool! However, I must remember to put them on when I go out ...

Nomads, Holy Clothing and Made in Italy - all do lovely long floaty dresses or tunics in cotton or linen. If they're see through I wear a cool waistslip which I made by sewing muslin in a rectangle and adding elastic at the top. Off to check out the knicker links now?

My long Sloggis came, they are OK but a bit warm. The other problem is that a panty liner, which I usually use for freshness or in case I sneeze, doesn't stay put, roams around a bit and sticks to the short and curlies despite there being a gusset of the same shape. Sorry if this is TMI! Might have to wear ordinary pants underneath which defeats the object of wanting to be cool. Have also ordered a culotte petticoat so we shall see how that goes. I was at the top of my garden just now, which is overlooked. I was reluctant to bend forward to pull weeds in case I showed the knicker legs, had to be more ladylike than I normally am when in trousers!smile
