If what he wants to experience are the attributes usually assigned to females by the culture - less violence, more nurturing, more in touch with his emotions, an interest in clothes and the decorative arts, a propensity for leading rather than being led, and so on, then he is at liberty to do all these things, perhaps more so in this age than in some earlier ones, when being warlike and macho were essential for defending territory and helpless infants. There have always been some men who eschewed masculine traits and preferred feminine ones. In some eras the human peacocks were men, and creative men are often more in tune with what is considered feminine.

I really recommend Grayson Perry's book "The descent of Man" for a view from one who has embraced many female traits but is emphatic in repeating that he is still male.
