What do your grandchildren call you?

My grandmothers, in an industrial Lancashire town, were Nanna on my mother's side and Grandma on my father's.

I don't have grandchildren (does that make me a fraud here?) as my daughter, now 40, has shown no maternal tendencies. If I did I'm not sure what I'd want them to call me except that I really don't think I'd encourage 'Gran'. But that's just me.

Is there anyone out there called Grandma Chicken? MyDD2 taught a child who called one grandmother this because she always served roast chicken when they visited!

My DD’s children call me Nanny. My DS’s children call me Grandma and sometimes, when he gets so excited to see me, my little GS calls me Grandpa! He gets in a muddle. He’s only five, bless him ?

My 5yr DGS has always called me ‘Nan’. He calls my mum ‘ Great Big Nanny’ and if ( those were the days!) we were all together I was ‘Tiny Nanny’ . At 5’9” and 12 stone I think he may have issues with estimating size! ??

My grandson age 3 call me Nana and my husband Granddad. His other grandparents are Grandma and Grandpa. My one year old granddaughter says dada for all of the males and Mama mummum for all ladies.

Granny and Grandpa. One set of DGC have the same on the other side of the family, but they sorted it out soon enough and if they need to make it clear which ones they are talking about, they just add the name of the towns where we live.

My grandson calls me Tessie. I'm very happy with that.

I’m Grammy, (for a long time it was bammy and I thought that would stick) and I love it. I think it’s fun and informal. My husband is Pops and he loves that too. The key is that it’s the love in the little voice that says it that’s the most important thing.

Nain, pronounced nine, Welsh version, although apart from me, all family are English. Often get Naineeee when they want something, so I shortened my sign off in texts etc to 9E.

Why when posters have already said they loved being called Nana & wouldn't call anyone for being grandma gran etc do some of you insist on saying such nasty things about children calling their grandparent Nana or Nanny?

Coolgran65 Mon 19-Oct-20 01:11:27

We are Granny ‘Christian Name’ and Granda ‘Christian Name’
and this goes for the other grandparents also.

GreenGran78 Mon 19-Oct-20 00:55:13

We started off as Grandma and Grandad, but my DH somehow morphed into Grallag.

I think my name gives a clue as to what my beautiful darling GD calls me. I don't feel like a dog! I feel loved.

I have four grandchildren. The eldest two call us Granny and Grandpa.
The younger two have speech problems, they call us Dandy and Dampa.
I like being Dandy, and will be a little bit sorry when they can say Granny properly.

The speech therapy is going well so we will wait and see.

My GGC have 6 female grandparents, so 2granmas and 4 granny surname or christian name for the great grannys, this suits all and avoided confusion when smaller

nexus63 Sun 18-Oct-20 23:19:40

my son refers to me as granny or gran when talking to his son who is only 19 months and not talking, i grew up with my granny, all the kids in the family call me by my first name rather than auntie or great aunt...that would make me feel ancient at 58 x

I'm Nanny Noodles ?

glammagran Sun 18-Oct-20 22:43:14

My mother was Grammy to my children so when they produced our gorgeous grandchildren I became Granny Penny. This is now GP which I love! My husband started as Poppa Paul but that has now been abbreviated to PP. The youngest two still say Granny Penny and Poppa Paul but I think the elder four - all now teenagers - like the originality of the abbreviations.

Our grandchild calls us by the version of Grandma and Granddad that she could pronounce when small and they’ve stuck - we love them, unique to us. Thought she’d grow out of it but she hasn’t, I’m delighted to say ?

My maternal grandmothers had died before I was born, but my Mum always spoke lovingly about her Nana, so that was my choice. I have been Nana now for 23 years and 4 GC. Always love it when they call my name
