Finally getting organised with wireless headphones courtesy of DS so that I can listen while walking and up my daily mileage ! Any recommendations for interesting podcasts ?

I listen to BBC History Extra, and CBC Quirks and Quarks (science), also CBC Q (featuring musicians). I'm not sure if the CBC ones are available internationally, but they are interesting. Second Life is also interesting; about women that have started interesting second careers.

The History Extra one often sends me to sleep.

I listen to loads of podcasts from the BBC to keep up to date with happenings in the UK. If you are interested in films, the Kermode and Mayo podcast is most enjoyable. In the podcast they cut out news, weather and traffic but it still lasts nearly 2 hours.

All your favourite programmes are available as podcasts. Desert Island discs has an archive of all the programmes they ever made (where the recordings have not got lost).

And don't forget audiobooks!

Thank you both.

And there is a podcast on the BBC site which recommends and discusses podcasts from all over on a myriad of topics.

I think this is it

The BBC sounds app has a multitude of interesting or amusing things to listen to. I go on my daily walk accompanied by various comedy panel shows including vintage ones. The only problem is that occasionally I startle passers by when I burst out laughing.
Episodes of Cranford propelled me round my daily walk for a while. There are lots of good books to listen to.

It may be worth checking out what audio books you can borrow online from your local library if available all the best.

I have been listening to some true crime investigations, although I did scream when my neghbour said hello to me whilst I was listening to them while gardening blush

Great help everyone, ta!

My library service has Borrowbox - I am in Hetfordshire. It is a brilliant service which allows you to borrow audio books, download them to listen when I am out walking. You can renew them and return them at the click of a button, just like a normal library book. its very easy to use
and totally fantastic.

I subscribe to many podcasts but You Are Dead To Me is always worth listening to. (Lighthearted history podcast). Are you into any particular books or genres? There’s quite often podcasts devoted to particular authors or series etc.

"This American Life" is great in my opinion and has spin-off podcasts.

I love Americast with Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel. they always sound as though they're having a good time, chuckling about the absurdities of current American politics.

I'm afraid my main use of podcasts is to send me to sleep. Best ones for that are the British History Podcast, History of the English Language, and History of England.

And I'm really interested in this stuff, but at 11pm it's just right for knocking me out!

Another vote for Older and Wider look forward to every episode also Get Sleepy podcast at bedtime

All BBC ‘In Our Time’ programmes are available. If lockdown lasts long enough, you could be a polymath.

trisher Wed 06-Jan-21 10:48:54

I love the BBC sounds comedy ones- some old stuff is really dated. Great programmes like Beyond Our Ken and I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again. From now- Dead Ringers. The Unbelievable Truth
Also if you like the Greek Myths and History- Natalie Haynes Stands up for..... Where she chooses a character to talk about and discuss with her expert guests.

Neil Oliver’s Love Letter to the British Isles is worth a listen,

There are Reith Lectures going back to the 1940s and those are very interesting. Also lots of detective series.

WOODMOUSE49 Wed 06-Jan-21 11:45:13

Big Travel Podcast is good as we cannot travel at the moment.
