New winter coat

I didn't wear a hat at DS's wedding. Church wedding. I did have some flowers in my hair though.

To Kitty Lester - I had a "funeral coat" with a black fur collar for over 26 years but reluctantly put it in a charity bag recently as it swamps me. I have lost around 26 pounds but can't afford a new coat of that quality. Is this sad or does it matter? I notice people attend funerals in freezing churches wearing down jackets. No hats ever, and the last wedding I attended had no hats, apart from one, either. It was my son's wedcing and I concocted a hat. But took it off when I looked around. Even the bride's mother wore an elegant dress sans hat or fascinator (congergation middle class, country church).

Just for fun I had a look - there are some on ebay at the moment. Do ask if the owner has washed it, it does affect the waterproofing.

Shinamae I got my NF artic parka from ebay second hand, it's the old style with two pockets on the chest and two side pockets. Used to wear it in the Station in the winter! I like the two way zips, not all coats have them. I've had it five years now so my £125 investment has been great, it still looks new. I've just paid £15 to have the cuffs redone with bias binding as they were fraying, should last another couple of years.

Unfortunately I got caught out on the spring tide and flooded my trusty Sorel boots so I've had to buy some new ones, but they are a great investment too.

The Seasalt mac was in the sale and has a bit of quilting, I used to have a short yellow one but always got wet legs. I had discussed waterproof trousers with a friend, but didn't like the noise or feel of them, and wanted something longer. Hope it also lasts years, it was expensive but I'll look after it.

I am another who has a Seasalt Mac. It is a loose lightweight one that folds up to go in it's own pocket. I've worn it for a year now, every time it has been raining or looks like it might. T shirt and jeans under if it is warm, warm trousers and big polo neck sweater if cold. If I need to be 'posh', I have a pure new wool camel coat from M & S - bought in the Charity Shop on the Isle of Barra for £5.00 !!!

Another vote for Seasalt waterproofs. A good wool coat should last for years and not bobble. Having said that I've had some Monsoon ones and been pleased with those too.

I'm in Northumberland and find the winds up here really cold. I have a North Face artic parka, and a new Seasalt tincloth mac with a fitted hood. Just tested the Seasalt mac and kept me perfectly dry in pouring rain.

Thought the Arctic Parker sounded fabulous until I saw the price…?‍♀️ I must say it does look worth the money but way out of my price range

As I like to change a bit with fashion I usually buy one every other year. I've bought a few from C&A here in Belgium but as I have a longish raincoat I bought a sort of car coat length wool jacket from H&M. Cheap but cheerfully. It hasn't pilled.

If I see one I really liked I would spend more on a better quality one.

Because like most of us I didn’t go anywhere throughout most of 2020 I have a brand new Seasalt boiled wool coat - complete with labels, hanging in the wardrobe. It was bought in their end of season about Feb/March 2020 - and then of course we had lockdown and one of the hottest summers for years!
Apart from dog walking i haven’t had an opportunity to wear it yet - I hope I still like it!

KatieB291, Seasalt have some lovely waterproof coats. They are quite expensive but worth the money as they are really waterproof and warm.
I walk my dog in mine and never get wet.

My navy blue cashmere coat was purchased in 1976. Still looking good. I recently bought a down puffa full length coat in black, from Uniqlo. Looks very smart and can be brightened up with various scarves. I also have a short puffa jacket in silver grey, also Uniqlo. So useful as it folds up into its little bag. Welcome KatieB291.

I have a sea salt coat, and I love it.

Seasalt have some good waterproof coats. Mine withstands standing watching DGS playing football in the pouring rain.

Apart from my good funeral coat, I have a variety of coats for different occasions, none of which were a huge investment as fashions change.

I have a Rohan long quilted coat which is very light and very warm.

KatieB291 have a look at Cotton Traders, they have some with good reviews.

Good morning! I’m new here and this is my first post.
I’m looking for some advice re waterproof (really waterproof not just showerproof lol!) coats. My daughter is expecting baby number 2 after a six year gap and I’m excited and looking forward to miles of pram-pushing and hopefully losing some of my excess lockdown pounds!
Can anyone recommend a longish comfy raincoat please? I’m in Glasgow and it’s currently pouring and looks like it could be a long wet winter. TIA

I got a lovely puffer type coat from cotton traders some years back. It’s bright red, warm as toast and cost me £15 as it was on sale. I think they still have that model, though more expensive. I love it!
