Thank you for my copy of Hello from the Gillespies - it arrived this morning, perfect timing as I have just finished my own Book Club book A Week in Paris.
Looking forward to a few cosy nights reading and posing some questions/comments soon.

Thank you for my copy of Hello from the Gillespies. I am almost halfway through and can't put it down! It's spellbinding! More when I finish it

Thank you for my copy of Hello from The Gillespies received last week , I started reading it this weekend and find it hard to put down! I know a few people who send out the Round Robin letters each year and one family member's seems to get more dire each year. It is so topical for this time of year and so easy to get into you just have to keep reading to find out what each character is doing next. Thank you again for such an enjoyable read , definitely a book I will be recommending.

Thanks so much for my copy of this book, I have just finished it, can't believe it - over 500 pages. But I just couldnt put it down. This is the first one I have read by this author, but will definitely be looking for more. A good read for this time of year, when I do get a few round robin Christmas letters from friends whose lives seem a lot more together than my own.
I really identified with Angela, trying to keep her family together, and I'm sure a lot of us will identify with our grown up children still having problems.
A good one for book groups, I will recommend it to mine.
Thanks again.

I got my copy of Hello from the Gillespies on Saturday and finished it in the wee small hours of Sunday morning. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the interesting and unexpected twists which I will not spoil for others. I will certainly look out for this author, it is always good to find someone new whose work you enjoy. I should like to ask her which of the three countries she depicts that she most enjoys? Didn't seem to be any autobiographical details included which makes it hard to second guess.

In case anyone wants to listen, the author was interviewed last week on Woman's Hour (Tuesday 14th). Still available to listen on the website. Very amusing, made me want to read the book!

Thank you for my copy of Hello from the Gillespies which arrived today. It was a lovely surprise as I didn't know I had won a copy. I began reading straight away as I am rather poorly at the moment and tucked up in bed so lots of time to read.

Many thanks to Gransnet for my copy of Hello from the Gillespies, which arrived in a very soggy state this morning. Thanks to my postman too for delivering it and not charging me postage even though it was neither franked nor stamped. smile

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 18-Nov-14 14:52:28

grannyactivist eek! That's a first I think. Anyone else have the same? I will mention to the publisher (who sends the books out directly)

Liz46 Tue 18-Nov-14 15:55:46

Annie, thanks for telling us about the interview on Womans Hour. Just in case anyone else wants to listen to it, I think it was on the 11th and not the 14th.

Maggiemaybe Tue 18-Nov-14 17:57:41

I think I can safely say I've not been lucky this time. At least if I buy it myself I won't have to rush to read and comment! grin

eGJ Tue 18-Nov-14 21:56:50

Hello from the Gillespies arrived this morning and I've been distracted from the rest of life all day! Funny thing is is that I DO get a Round Robin Christmas letter each year from someone with that surname!! I'm now about a third of the way through, but won't reveal ALL...............just to say it is a good amusing read! smile smile

geri Wed 19-Nov-14 14:38:29

I'd like to ask Monica does she ever write or receive Xmas round robin letters herself?

GrannyLondon Wed 19-Nov-14 17:08:40

I rarely win raffles etc either, so this was a real treat. I shall start it when I've finished Thursday's Children by Nicci French.
Thank you
Regards, GrannyLondon

grannyactivist Wed 19-Nov-14 22:57:18

Well I've finished the book and I loved it. Really, really loved it. So much so that I started it last night and hardly put it down all day. I don't want to give anything away, but I could really relate to the main character and the reality of her family life in a busy household. I shall take myself off to see what else she's written forthwith. smile
Cari now that I've read it I can honestly say that I wouldn't have minded if I had been charged excess postage for the book. grin
