Hello, I am new to the book club.
When does the book for the month get announced?
I would love to join in with the conversations.

What device are you signed in on, gardenoma? The newsletter preferences are there for you to tick, but not with the main account details. I've just had a look and if I'm on my Kindle or smartphone I've to bring up my account details then click on the drop-down arrow at the top right of the page to get to two extra ones - Newsletters and Grandchildren. These just show as extra tabs if I'm signed in on my desktop.

It’s the first time this week that our postie has been able to do his round Jalima1108 so don’t give up hope!
I missed applying as the daily newsletter goes into a junk folder in my email and I keep forgetting to look.

Never mind, I'll read the reviews then perhaps order one locally - no spoilers please! grin

Sorted maggiemay be, thanks. I'm on a kindle and tend to whizz through pages so the dropdown had escaped me there.

I received a copy of the book today! A very welcome start to the week. smile

moleswife Mon 05-Mar-18 14:09:12

I heard my copy was on its way - however, with the backlog of post due to the weather, I won't complain - but I am looking forward to reading this month's book!

This is a certainly a “feel good” book as flagged up in the introduction. The characters are well drawn and the descriptions of the landscape very evocative.
I raced through it once, eager to know what happened and then reread more thoughtfully. I still enjoyed it, but felt that some of the plot lines were a little trite. I couldn’t believe in the emotionally abusive husband who conveniently got himself out of the way or the son who did the same. Not naming them to avoid spoiling!
I am sure this would make a marvellous film and would want to see that landscape for real. Does the author know if this is likely?

What a surprise, I received one today. It has really cheered me up, as I'm feeling rubbish. Thanks GN.smile

Thank you for my copy of the march book, arrived at lunchtime.
Will endeavour to give a better review this month and avoid the wrath of others who thought I was spoiling the book for others.

gardenoma

Just a quick question re daily newsletter. I looked into my account info to change settings so as to receive one but there isnt the facility or anywhere else as far as I can see. I never received one nor can I remember being given the option (but might have forgotten that, more likely)

Email us at [email protected] and we can look into this for you

Never mind, I'll read the reviews then perhaps order one locally - no spoilers please!
unless there is a slightly grubby dog-eared one lurking in corner of the GNHQ office? Under someone's desk? Coffee stains accepted smile
Please?

gardenoma Tue 06-Mar-18 22:25:13

Thanks CariGransnet but Maggiemaybe sorted me out, see below. Apparently it's slightly different on a kindle fire. But I got there.

Jen67 Wed 07-Mar-18 16:07:14

Hi how do I actually join the book club please??

humptydumpty Wed 07-Mar-18 16:29:54

Thanks GN, have received my book and look forward to reading it (after reading 'The Island' for local book club next Wednesday smile )

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 07-Mar-18 16:45:31

And a quick note to add that as you beat us to it in terms of starting a thread, do please use this one to add your thoughts and questions for the author

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Mar-18 23:44:28

Jen67 I think you have to look out for an email each month and apply through that.
I usually manage to miss it!!

Greenfinch Thu 08-Mar-18 09:10:46

No you don't get an email about the monthly book. After you have applied it just turns up a couple of weeks later. Apply when it is advertised under Books in the middle of the month.

Jalima1108 Thu 08-Mar-18 14:09:37

Oh, thank you Greenfinch

I think the email I missed did have a link to that, perhaps that's where the confusion arose.

LadyGracie Thu 08-Mar-18 14:43:59

Received my copy and I’ve already started reading it. Thank you

granh1 Thu 08-Mar-18 16:52:47

Thanks! looking forward to reading the book.

Flutterly Thu 08-Mar-18 17:29:39

Received my book yesterday, looking forward to reading it this weekend.

Greenfinch Thu 08-Mar-18 20:30:40

Ah,I see what you mean*Jalima*.You are referring to the daily email from GN which does indeed have a link once a month to the book.

nonnanna Fri 09-Mar-18 08:52:32

CariGransnet I've been waiting for the thread and only just spotted your comment!!!

Thank you for my copy. It arrived in last week's snow and was a welcome diversion. Glorious to be transported to the heat of Australia and I'm sure I must have saved on heating during the time it took me to read it. I do have a good imagination.

What a great book. An easy read, very descriptive and it did remind me of The Thorn Birds. I particularly like the layout of the lists of timelines of events in the years the story is set. It really helped me to imagine the scene for the following chapters.

Purpledaffodil comments on the men who conveniently got themselves out of the way and I'd like to ask Sophie Green, the author if she feels this is a common trait in Australian culture as it is a situation that I've come across before. It's a vast country where communication can be difficult and where it is simple to lose oneself in work on stations, head off travelling or take up residence in a city. Combine this with an indigenous culture of going walkabout and a desire to isolate oneself from the usual responsibilities, it's very easy to conveniently disappear.

Like other Gransnetters I am now inspired to read more of the Australian classics referred to by Sophie, thank you.

Greetings from the frozen North! My book has just arrived....Has it been stuck in a snow drift somewhere? hmm
Having given up hope, I'd started reading another...so no spoilers, please, while I catch up with you all grin
...Looks like a good read...

eGJ Fri 09-Mar-18 14:38:04

Glad to hear that your book has emerged from the snow GeminiJen No spoilers from me, but be ready for a easy and enjoyable read immersed in the Australian outback! smile

As I missed applying for this I thought I'd order it from Amazon myself.

However, the message on the Amazon page says:
^This title will be released on December 27, 2018.^

I can pre-order if I wish!!
