DH and I are having our usual silent stand-off to see which one of us will crumble first. (I put the electric "stove" on when we sit down in the evenings!)

DS coming home for a couple of days leave today. He will be vocal! grin

yes !!!!!!!!!!!!! put it on yesterday, and I put a thicker duvet on my bed !

jinglej Thu 20-Oct-11 14:17:11

Oh dear Elegran. sad

Elegran Thu 20-Oct-11 14:51:09

Yes, Jingly, I don't make an issue of it but the future is not bright. But day-to-day everything is OK, we see family and friends, the GP calls fortnightly and so does a lovely community nurse from the hospice (alternate weeks). We get out in the car and we walk round the block or to the nearest shop if the weather is good. No immediate problems at the moment, except the knowledge that it will not last.

We've had more than 48 good years. So far so good.

Oh Elegran I was just going to post about freezing in my office and all about various children & grandchildren in hospital. Feeling really sorry for myself. Having read your post I know that you need a big hug much more than me. Take care xxx

jinglej Thu 20-Oct-11 15:04:47

Elegran thanks

Elegran Thu 20-Oct-11 15:25:27

Nannysgetpaid please keep on posting about everything - it is great to read what all the Gnetters are doing. Neither DH nor I are sitting around thinking how miserable life is. We do whatever makes us happy and ignore what may (will) come. No point weeping twice over, before the event as well as during it.

I know perfectly well that in a matter of months (maybe years if I am lucky) I shall have to restructure my life, but I also know that it is possible to do, because I have friends who have done so, as well as all the strong ladies on GN.

nannysgetpaid Thu 20-Oct-11 15:31:12

Elegran smile thanks

goldengirl Thu 20-Oct-11 15:45:02

I'm a cold mortal and we've got the heating on at 22 degrees at present AND I wear a jumper or a cardy.

nanachrissy Thu 20-Oct-11 16:22:31

Elegran you sound a lovely strong lady.

Elegran Thu 20-Oct-11 16:24:26

Nanachrissy I'll check back with you on that in a year or so! Ok so far ......

GoldenGran Thu 20-Oct-11 17:04:16

{thanks]

gracesmum Thu 20-Oct-11 17:30:12

Elegran you are a star and a tower of strength - my thoughts are with you and your DH and I wish you happy days for as long as fate permits - and put that heating on or off just as you like - live for today and let the future take care of itself. {{{HUG}}}

GoldenGran Thu 20-Oct-11 17:38:54

I'll try again elegran thanks

glammanana Thu 20-Oct-11 18:31:27

Elegran oh I did not mean to sound so awful it was meant in jest,as it is a standing joke in this house that the men alway's wash and dry the dishes, and the girls put their feet up,I wish my DH walked around the block with me it would do him more good than going everywhere by car.Hugs for you and thanksx

Elegran Thu 20-Oct-11 19:01:54

Thank you so much, all of you. You are so full of support. I did not mean to get onto the subject (plenty of other things to post about) but Jingly said "Oh dear" and I started to explain.

Glammanana, how can you feel you were awful when you were just continuing on what went before? I was the one who put the gloom into the thread, not you.

Now let us get back to the central heating......

Libradi Thu 20-Oct-11 20:54:34

Hugs Elegran thanks and maybe wine for you and both. Now as you suggest I'll get back to central heating, but I am thinking of you, smile

I've been trying to hold off putting ours on (trying to cut down on cost) and have succeeded until yesterday when I did give in for an hour or so. We live in the south west and it's much milder here than most other places but I can't stand being cold, neither can DH since having a heart condition.

Decided to buy an electric blanket today, had one years ago and for some reason stopped using it. They've changed so much, this one is washable, you can leave it on all night, several different heat controls and cost 1p - 2p a night to run. Looking forward to going to bed tonight grin

yogagran Thu 20-Oct-11 22:42:36

More hugs for Elegran - I'm certainly surprised by your revelations, you always come across as so strong and compassionate. I never realised that you had such problems. You're in my thoughts x

Our heating is completely automatic. Somehow the boiler (although it's not actually a "boiler" it's something much more complicated and technical than that!) knows when the weather changes (average temperatures etc) and turns itself on. Big plus of this system is that the house never gets really cold as it only drops a few degrees overnight. Therefore when I get up for a loo trip in the early hours, the house is not bitterly cold.
I still like an electric blanket though as I hate getting into a cold bed. I've had my electric blanket for yonks - wonder if I should replace it for safety reasons

harrigran Thu 20-Oct-11 23:21:44

Elegran thanks

glammanana Fri 21-Oct-11 08:35:13

Elegran hugs thanks

bagitha Fri 21-Oct-11 08:38:53

Does anyone else use a hot water bottle to warm the bed up in the winter?

dorsetpennt Fri 21-Oct-11 09:27:28

Used to use a hot water bottle but I woke up one night thinking I'd wet the bed, it had burst.smile. I now have an electric blanket which I love. I haven't put the heating on timer yet just on as and when. However, I think the timer will be implemented soon.

jinglej Fri 21-Oct-11 09:36:23

Always used to love my hot water bottle. Can't remember why I stopped. Think the chore of filling it got too much. [lazy cow emoticon]

Elegran Fri 21-Oct-11 10:06:29

Jinglej I knew you needed a microwavable one!

jinglej Fri 21-Oct-11 10:21:11

Oh yes!...... grin

nanny1 Fri 21-Oct-11 10:40:30

I need a man to warm up my bed - hee hee smile

(apologies in advance in case i offend anyone)
