Me and my daft rubbish!

GoldenGran Wed 30-Nov-11 15:14:56

Have just got back from babysitting the GC and now have been tempted to make this,it sounds so good I can nearly smell it grin

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 15:17:16

Gracesmum has read the message.

It's alright again now. smile

Carol Wed 30-Nov-11 15:19:16

It's smells even nicer the next day!

Butternut Wed 30-Nov-11 15:57:57

It gets better and better, carol.......

Carol Wed 30-Nov-11 16:04:34

I seriously doubt whether it will be allowed to get better Butternut. Think I'll be making more this weekend.

Ariadne Wed 30-Nov-11 16:38:40

Now waiting for it to cool....quick question, Jingl; had to add a bit more flour, so am wondering if my measuring cups are a bit lacking. Bought them in the states some time ago. I usually calculate about 4oz per cup? Ta.

bagitha Wed 30-Nov-11 16:42:17

ariadne, my American measuring cup holds five ounces of flour, full to the brim.

Annobel Wed 30-Nov-11 17:13:34

Mine also comes to 5 ounces.

Jacey Wed 30-Nov-11 17:22:28

OK ...I'm not going to post either

But pleased to here the gluten free flour worked ...note to self to get some! hmm

Ariadne Wed 30-Nov-11 17:27:21

Well, it worked with the extra bit of flour. Tastes gorgeous. But thanks -it's obviously the extra couple of ounces that was/were needed, and I'll remember 5oz in future. It is now sliced, sandwiched with baking parchment so we can have one slice at a time, and going into the freezer. I AM NOT safe with fresh cake in the house.

Annobel Wed 30-Nov-11 17:35:55

I was wondering why my waistband was feeling a bit tight...shock

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 18:22:35

Ariadne, ask Butternut. It's her recipe, not mine!

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 18:23:42

Ariadne, have you ever eaten frozen cake? It's nice. smile

yogagran Wed 30-Nov-11 19:05:27

Freezing cake doesn't work with me either jingl - I'll eat it anyway!

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 19:19:40

Yep! There's no escape from temptation! grin

(you have to be careful not to dent the kitchen table when you force the knife in) shock

bagitha Wed 30-Nov-11 21:41:39

DD2, who is planning to inherit my kitchen table confused , says she wants it to look used so I don't worry about dents.

grannyactivist Thu 01-Dec-11 00:11:08

Baggy in my family I 'inherit' all my (adult) children's old furniture while they get to buy matching new stuff. confused

Butternut Thu 01-Dec-11 06:24:41

I've always though that if kitchen tables could talk, what tales they would tell!

Ariadne Thu 01-Dec-11 09:03:09

I am definitely up for dozy bat of the week. (See my post about the half cucumber) I took the measuring cups out of the dishwasher just now; they are silicone and can be collapsed for storage. When I opened the 1 cup measure out, I realised I hadn't opened it fully yesterday, hence the paucity of flour....

Carol Thu 01-Dec-11 09:13:15

Hahaha - that's just the sort of thing I would do! x

bagitha Thu 01-Dec-11 09:43:37

grin We all have our moments!

Oldgreymare Sat 03-Dec-11 19:00:01

I'm not really posting this either, AND I wasn't going to bother to make a Christmas cake this year, BUT has anyone seen the recipe in Nov 'Good Housekeeping'? I have bought the ingredients.... it sounds like a posh 'Boiling Broonie'....wink Baking tomorrow!

jingl Sat 03-Dec-11 22:28:07

I saw that recipe OGM. I was going to make it (they reckon it's the easiest one yet) but it needed Amaretto almond liquer. I looked online and it was so expensive. So I made my usual one. Did you use Amaretto? Wonder what it's like to drink as there would be a fair bit left over. I could make a second one.
