I always do it this way

I always iron a shirt the same way. I iron it as I was shown in domestic science class.
I line a fruit cake baking tin, the way I was taught in the DS class
I always put on a fresh duvet cover the way it was shown many moons ago on the Tv programme 'That's Life' !
I am adaptable but these things never change.
Do any GNers still do things the way they were taught in their younger days?

Life is too short to stuff a mushroom said Shirley Conran.
I second that!!!!

Glad that there are other non ironers and housecleaning mimimisers out there.

pensionpat - oh, yuk! grin

Actually, I hold the pillow between my chin and neck and I don't actually have dentures! grin

mrsmopp Fri 23-Oct-15 02:04:38

Take your teeth out and clamp the pillow with your gums.
Then take a selfie and post it on here smile

My Granny used to do that too! grin I did it until I started buying spread and it came in tubs. I'd forgotten all about that. Didn't know about cake and loaf tin liners, but will be checking them out now that I do. grin

I can see dentures being at risk with the pillow method, but your crowns would be safe enough annodomini wink

I always save the paper from the butter wrappings for lining cake tins. I would fold them up and keep them in the door of the fridge. Another trick learned from my mum.

I iron shirts like my dad who was n the navy taught me.
Unless we find a better way, like a dishwasher, why not carry on with the way you always have.

annodomini Wed 21-Oct-15 17:57:50

I only did DS for two years, thus missed out on lining a cake tin. A friend, whose father was a master baker showed me the professional way, but - always happy to cheat - I buy Lakeland's cake and loaf tin liners.

SusanCh Wed 21-Oct-15 17:43:24

Lining the cake tin - always the way I was taught in DS. Also, always use the old fashioned way of creaming eggs and sugar and then folding in flour when making a cake. I'm very suspicious of the "all in one" method. That's not how I was taught. Neither would I trim pastry edges after I've cooked a pie or flan. I often comment to my hubby that my domestic science teacher would have nightmares at how some things get done these days.

I've always done the teeth method for pillowcases, it just happened naturally! grin
The 'Ana' method of changing the duvet is the quickest way for me too. I always thought it was the 'Lona' though.

mrsmopp Wed 21-Oct-15 16:46:15

Anno, no, no, you do it gently, just enough to keep it still while you guide it into the pillowslip.

LullyDully Wed 21-Oct-15 15:23:21

Fireproof. Sorry

annodomini Wed 21-Oct-15 13:35:09

kitty, I don't know about your dentures, but I wouldn't be prepared to risk my crowns biting into a pillow. confused

LullyDully Wed 21-Oct-15 12:28:58

My method of changing a duvet cover is fireproof.

Bed changing belongs to DH.

kittylester Wed 21-Oct-15 07:29:09

're holding pillows in one's teeth - there is a real danger of losing one's dentures into the pillowcase which would make sleeping very uncomfortable!

chelseababy Wed 21-Oct-15 06:19:22

Angelina, I think you will get advice more quickly if you start a new thread, maybe under Legal? Sorry I can't help but I'm sure there will be someone along soon who can

angelinashaw123 Wed 21-Oct-15 00:54:12

Grandma2213 Tue 20-Oct-15 23:31:28

Wilma me too. Might be better than dropping the whole thing down the stairs using my usual 'landing' method. Also better for those who live in bungalows!

However I still don't iron. Just hang son's shirts up. He doesn't wear them much.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 20-Oct-15 23:31:08

Thinking about it, I'm not sure my Mum does use her teeth! I think it just seemed the natural thing to do. Maybe it's because we like fat pillows that really fill out a pillow case. All I know is it works. grin

mrsmopp Tue 20-Oct-15 23:23:33

Ana, with the pillow in your teeth you have both hands free to drop the pillow into the pillowslip! Much easier. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
I was much relieved to find I'm not the only one doing it this way. I'm just copying my mum....!

Ana Tue 20-Oct-15 23:13:45

(but that's yet another thing I've learned about on here that I've never come across in my life before! grin)

Ana Tue 20-Oct-15 23:10:04

Why on earth would you need (or want!) to hold the pillow in your teeth? I just stuff it in the pillowcase and shake it about a bit...confused

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 20-Oct-15 23:07:34

Pillow in teeth for me too and when I try the burrito method on our king size quilt, my DH will help (as he usually does) to make it quicker. We've never had a bannister, but I like that idea too.

Auntieflo Tue 20-Oct-15 20:15:36

Elegran, I change my duvet covers the same way as you, over the bannister rail, and thought I was unique and brilliant smile.
MrsMopp I also hold my pillows in my teeth, with the pillow slip underneath and just shake in, simples. grin
