Trying to be clever with a memory like mine!

The conservatory window keys are in the fridge
The milk is in the wardrobe and the cat is wondering why it seems to be expected to sleep in your tights drawer. Simples!

Don't worry. Both DH and I have been doing that sort of thing for years. After one move we coul not find the colander or fruit bowl anywhere until it was time to do the washing. There they were safely stowed in the twin tub for transit. DH once put Chloe the spaniel's chew bone in his tool box for safe keeping. It always seems a good idea at the time. At least it is exciting when you do fine something you had thought lost.

Couldn't find something I'd put in a safe place this afternoon only a couple of hours after I'd put it there. My DD was here and she said she thinks she has £150 somewhere in her house in a "safe place".

The thought that I so nearly threw it in the bin continues to send shivers up my spine.

My MiL was at her daughters house (my husbands sister) once Ndctook her engagement ring off to wash up, for some reason. Unfortunately she wrapped it in a tissue and put it on the window ledge to keep it safe. SiL saw what she thought was a used tissue and threw it away! It was never found.

Window keys are notorious for disappearing.

A friend of mine put a lettuce in the bread bin when unpacking the shopping. She didn't find it for several days. As she said to me "We don't eat much bread!"
This was quite a few years ago and she certainly doesn't seem to show any symptoms of dementia!

After cleaning the woodburner the other day (won't light it again now unless it snows in June) I arranged some logs inside the glass door and there, at the bottom of the log basket, was a set of workshop keys that DH has just spent a week looking for.

He was convinced he'd dropped them in the river.

I've been known to search for my glasses when I'm wearing them.

So there's still hope for the pedometer and one earring that just plain disappeared from my bedside table a couple of months ago then? I'm keeping the other earring in a safe place till they turn up. If only I could remember where that safe place is....

Window keys! I've got four on top of my spare room wardrobe. Two of them don't fit any of our windows and they haven't been changed for twenty odd years. I'm leaving them there just in case.

Sorry greyduster your OP didn't start out as funny but some of the posts have made me giggle.

I've lost my seive. Both DH and I have searched for it (even in the airing/boiler cupboard), to no avail.
DS says I've lost it because I've got a memory like a sieve.....

We always put the back door keys in the sane place after locking up at night.
A few weeks ago I got up and they were no where to be found. S had locked up the night before and he insisted he had put them in the usual place.
They are still missing

jings I've just lost a window key! I didn't know that it was a trait.
I hardly ever lose things so when I do, I can't rest until I've found it!

Grey Duster. As I read this story I thought he may be wearing it!!!! We do daft things daily. Husband is the great mislayer of items. He was once given some keys you had to whistle for, don't know what happened to them.

I'm usually quite sanguine about things that are mislaid, but of course this was different, and I do worry about it being a slippery slope. DH has suggested that in future, if I put things "out of sight" when we go away somewhere for more than a couple of days, as is my habit, that I make a written note of where they are and take it with me! Then of course I shall forget where I've put the list....... I have enjoyed reading your posts though - they cheered me up and it's nice to know it's not just me!

I cannot train myself to do the obvious - always put my bunch of door keys in the designated box. They are always somewhere else

Greyduster, if you're really really worried about your memory, talk to your gp. My ex OH lost a pair of underpants ...

I don't often lose things (tempting fate there!) but for a few years now I have been hearing a click at around 9.30 pm every night. I have been racking my brains trying to work out what it is. Last night I found out. The light outside the front door is on a timer which is plugged in behind a cupboard in my sitting room and the click is when it switches on! I must have set that up at some time but I can't for the life of me ever remember doing it!!!

On holiday once I was going to pay for something with my credit card, but when I opened my purse the card was missing. I went into a flat spin of panic, rang the 'lost/stolen' card hotline, reported it, stopped it being used for any transactions, did all the right things. Then, three hours later, got in the car, opened the glovebox to get my sunglasses out, and found........the credit card!
To this day I have no idea why it was in there, and the worst bit is that this happened when I was 36!
