Just read on a different thread someone who has had dermal fillers and (I think) feels better for it. Has anyone else had anything done? I've had fillers and my DD says its knocked 10 years off and I've had botox in a horizontal frown line between my eyes. I will have both topped up as I am more than happy. DH has noticed nothing including the fact he paid for it!

Anyone who says they don't want to look good is a fibber! If you want to have work done to look good, its not hurting anyone else, you can afford it, and it makes you feel good, blooming well do it! Life is too short! I have to have botox, but for my migraines, not because of how I look. If I could afford it I would have several nips n tucks here and there, just around me tummy, be lovely to see me feet again without that fatty apron my kids lovingly left me with after four c-sections lol! ;-) Live well, be careful, always go with someone that you can read the reviews on, and be aware of the dangers before you have any kind of procedure, and have a wonderful life! x

I don't mind looking older and wiser. I work with a lady to whom the phrase 'mutton dressed as lamb' seems to apply. One of the best compliments i've received from my grand daughter is that I look like a real grandma, that will do for me!

Good for you, I would have a face lift if I could afford it. No different from having teeth or hair done in my book.

Personally, I would never have anything done to my face or any other part of my body. I have had far too many serious things happen in my life to be interested in improving my face or boobs or whatever (although they could do with it). Good luck to those who do though. If this doesn't make me a hypocrite, I have had a hair system fitted as all my hair fell out. To my mind, there is a difference between not wanting to be bald and having lines etc removed, maybe some won't agree.

I would not do any of these things myself - but it is down to everyone to decide for themselves. BUT I have read in a psychology book, written by an academic with a Phd, and based on research , that there is a real down side to botox. It works by paralyzing tiny muscles and smoothing out wrinkles as it does so - the result is that you do look younger. However, it has an effect on how your face shows and reflects the feelings of others: when we are with someone who is either happy or sad, empathy enables us to connect with them and this is reflected in our facial expression. We 'mirror' their face and feelings - this is not consciously done, but is natural and signals to the other person our entering into their experience and feelings. It also affects us directly - that unconscious change in our faces informs our brains about the feelings of the person we are with, so we respond appropriately and feel empathetic. As they say, our unconscious is like the main part of the ice berg which is under water - our conscious mind is the smaller part of the iceberg which is above water. This research helps our conscious mind understand consequences we would not otherwise have even thought of.

I'm quite fair, fair skin, don't tan, a few freckles over my nose, blue eyes brown hair (dyed reddish brown nowadays but my eyebrows have always been blonde...almost invisible.
I'm toying with the idea of microblading and having a jaw tightening procedure but it may well stay as just a thought. My OH laughed when I mentioned it and said he wouldn't recognise me. I suppose that I'm just being super critical of myself and others don't view me in the same way.

Dontaskme, it’s an entirely personal choice, isn’t it, and if you feel better for having it done and have researched it well, then go ahead. It’s not for everyone, but what a dull old world it would be if we were all the same! Good luck and be happy ? .

Zorro21 Thu 15-Mar-18 10:42:48

I just love Dontaskme's positivity.

I'd be terrified of having an unnecessary procedure - just in case it went wrong. I don't mind ageing - it's part of life and I begrudge unnecessarily filling the pockets of cosmetic surgeons unless of course there is a proper medical reason for so doing. A new hairdo is what makes me feel good - and that's a lot cheaper and safer than a cosmetic procedure. Also in the longer term necks and hands are a giveaway re ageing. I couldn't go through with the pain just to make me look 'better' for a few months for no good reason. That said if it's what someone really wants to do it's up to them!

Visited a friend last night who has just had laser treatment around her eyes. At the moment it looks dreadful as the skin is burnt but I will be interested to see what the final effect is and then I might be tempted myself.

annodomini Thu 15-Mar-18 10:58:59

I have always sworn that I wouldn't have any procedure that involved a general anaesthetic unless it was a matter of life or death or relieving a very painful and immobilising condition; and that certainly rules out cosmetic procedures.

colette13 Thu 15-Mar-18 11:06:37

With you - Dont ask me -- if I had the money -- I'd have the lot done.

Ramblingrose22 Thu 15-Mar-18 11:10:14

To repeat the OP's question in her post, has anyone had other beauty "interventions" to make them look younger and if so, how did they work for you?
For example, has anyone had laser treatment or dermabrasion or any other treatment that worked for age spots on the face or have you found creams or products that fade them away without such interventions?

Cold Thu 15-Mar-18 11:19:42

I think it's a very individual thing

Personally I don't like the idea of injecting toxins that paralyze the facial muscles - especially as I am sentitive to many types of drug. I do wonder whether there will be long term effects for the women who start doing this in their 20s and 30s

Buddly Thu 15-Mar-18 11:27:53

I’m with you -don’t ask me - I’ve had my eyelids done.Blepharoplasty. I’d been thinking about it for 2 years, my eyes seemed half closed especially in the mornings and make up just smeared everywhere. I booked and then cancelled a week before because I was so worried, then daughter said go for it so booked again and had it done in December. The result is excellent, I’m so pleased I did it. It’s just given me more confidence somehow.

Silverlining47 Thu 15-Mar-18 11:30:44

Like Ramblingrose I too would be interested in any personal recommendations for a cream or product that would fade age spots on the face.
Sorry if this is a slight diversion from the original post.

"How Not To Look Frumpy" is a very long book. I think that summer jackets with short sleeves are frumpy. M and S has gone frumpy.

Lilyflower Thu 15-Mar-18 11:42:36

When I was still employed the subject of 'work done' often came up amongst the women. I noticed that those who were vehemently aginst it were all the women with naturally good looks who were ageing better than everyone else.

In my view as you age you either look old with no cosmetic interventions or a little weird with the 'work done'. Personally I would rather have the money to look a little odd but younger than as saggy as I now look. Unfortunately, I don't have the cash to splash.

Teddy123 Thu 15-Mar-18 11:43:10

Brilliant! Do you know which filler was used. Am planning for the fillers but don't actually fancy Botox. How often will the fillers need topping up?
I haven't done any research yet .... Hence all the questions.
I bet you look gorgeous x

Teddy123 Thu 15-Mar-18 11:46:53

For anyone who wants a boost without fillers ...... Try Clarins Beauty Flash. Great for a special night out ..... Plumps the skin!
Have been using it since my 30s and the reason Clarins still sell it is because it's wonderful x

Dontaskme Thu 15-Mar-18 11:48:45

GabriellaG, I had the filler in Jan 17. I looked very hang-dog and tired before and don't now. The Doctor said it can last as little as a year or as long as 2,3 or 4 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed . I year and 2 months in and still looks fine. Not going to lie it did hurt and I felt like I'd been punched in the face for a few days, although I had no bruising and I will 100% have it done again. The botox doesn't freeze my face - it cant freeze where you haven't had it! I just have the horizontal frown line between my eyes done, I can still move the rest of my face and no-one knows I have any of this done.

Tiggersuki Thu 15-Mar-18 11:55:00

Really, some of you approve of Botox! You realise it often looks stupid, even if you think it makes you look younger. Also you will need it done again. Do some yoga or Pilates and relax into the skin you have at any age. You will feel younger and provided you think carefully about what you wear you will look younger. My husband is in seventies but looks much younger than many men of similar age: cycling, surfing and yoga....and apparently the love of Tottenham football team!

MissAdventure Thu 15-Mar-18 11:57:13

I wouldn't mind having some bits and bobs done. I feel I've aged about 50 years of late.

Nannapat1 Thu 15-Mar-18 12:08:42

I have both fillers and Botox, Don'taskme, and feel better for it. I don't think I look 'frozen' though, as I never overdo it, which a number of celebrities do. I also colour my hair and have had extensive dental work, although I've chosen a realistic shade of porcelain for veneers and crowns: brilliant white teeth in a mature face can look odd.
My view? If you feel that you look better having this done, you'll feel better in yourself. Each to theìr own though, it's not obligatory. But if it's not for you, no need to be hypercritical of those who do embrace such procedures.

jenwren Thu 15-Mar-18 12:09:41

Nobody has ever believed how old I am, as I have always looked ten years younger. The secret to my younger face now is I got FAT and it has ironed out the wrinkles lol. I dont want to be slim as looking at women of my age now there skin is crepey, so the answer to the fillers and botox is get FAT lol
